The class was well known for its talent which was first exhibited at the Sophomore Dinner Datelon April 24, 1953, when the juniors were Sophomores. Both Dinner Dates were very successful talent shows under the direction of Mrs. Nevada Miller, the junior Class Chairman. This year some of the outstanding talent that attracted attention was Richard Ware's hilarious performance of It Was In The Book , Alma Atkinson pantomiming Money,Honey , Denny Carley's melodious voice in Oh, My Pa Pa , and Pat Bettis' wonderful rendition of her own song entitled You're Turning Away , which she sang for the first time, as well as-other outstanding numbers of other members of the cast too numerous to mention. The class held the junior-Senior Prom in the famed Crystal Ball Room of the Rice Hotel on May 1, 1954, which was a very memorable as well as a stately occasion. . X I . Pasa- dena won the game with Orange 49-42. The first big event on Pasadena's basketball calendar was the Beaumont Tournament, The Eagles were able to win only one game while losing two. They defeated French of Beaumont and lost to Baytown and Milby of Houston. Several different boys composed the starting line-up during the tournament. They were Gene MCCarley, Maurice Simmons, jimmy Thompson, Floyd Thompson jimmy Stevens, and Tommy Mullilcin. Pasadena opened the district race against Port Arthur's Yel- low-jackets, and the defending champions downed the Eagles 55- 41. Fred Varni's 30 points sparked a Port Arthur scoring spree in the fourth quarter. The game was close for three quarters when Varni began his scoring spree. Some of the objectives are to achieve better social adjustment and to improve ones persona- lity. Among the activities are reading, discussions, pictures, lectures, and skits. President, Richard Alford, Secretary, Glenna Hooblerg Treasurer, joy Mock, Vice-President, Paula Rogers. Baldy, the high school mascot, in 1952-53, -passed away in the summer of '53 and the statue was put in front of the New Wing in his memory. The statue is a familiar sight to every student as they hurry to and from each class. Made of iron it stands through sunshine and rain showing the high school colors of green and white. During the football season last fall, it was destroyed and every Pasadenian felt thisgreat loss. Through the efforts of the maintenance department its pieces were put back together.
