And it was thereafter known as an institution of great learning, and those who crossed its threshold were filled with much wisdom. And they went forth into the world and became renowned. And they praised their alma mater, and its works became illus- trious and celebrated throughout south-eastern Kansas. And so it came to pass in the thirty-fifth year of our high school there entered into its lofty corridors a tribe who were to become the chosen people. But they were young and showed little promise in the eyes of the board of education. And they sent prophets among them to preach unto them and impart to them the fruits of ,the tree of knowledge. And, behold, the seeds of the fruit fell on fertile ground, and the class of '19 began early to be dis- tinguished for its brilliancy. But some of the seeds fell on stony ground, and a few of the tribe became outcasts. But those wl1o remained con- tinued their search for knowledge. And so the first year of our journey was finished and the first indications of the glory and power to come were made manifest. ACTS When the tribe assembled for the second year a few had fallen by the wayside, but we entered the wilder- ness with increased confidence. And our reputation was maintain- ed. Realizing that such a vast multi- tude should not go farther without leadership, we were called together and one of the wise men of the tribe was chosen to lead the people into the way of everlasting light. And we chose as our standards purple and white, deemed to be looked upon with respect and adora- tion by all the classes of the earth. And our coat of arms was select- ed, and proved to be a wise choice, for it will ever be a reminder of those wonderful days that are al- most past. A - In the latter part of the year a great pilgrimage was planned, but the gods were displeased. And they sent a great flood, but their anger was appeased. So the year ended, with the class united, rejoicing that another suc- cessful year had passed.

THE P.A.RsoN1AN '19 LAM ENTATI ONS We entered the third year of our journey with a reputation for wis- dom. We remembered our suc- cesses, and ever drew nearer and nearer our goal. But our wise leader, who had proved himself worthy of the great honor which he held, called the class together and gave unto them sad tidings. It was necessary for him to go to a far country, whither his parents led him, and he said farewell to the people of his choice. And so, with much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, he departed. But the watchful deities, ever in- terested in our welfare, sent one in- to our midst, who was to become the leader of the people until they emerged from the wilderness into the land of everlasting light. 'And so the history of the class of '19 ever increased, and we gained for ourselves many new laurels. And in the latter part of the year we held a great passover. And the wise men of the class of '18 were present, and shed many tears upon their departure from fthe land of learning. But the class at this time was almost overtaken by destruction. We had wandered into the wilder- ness in search of, pleasure, and had lost our way and become sep- arated. ' But again the gods were good, and at last we became united and finished the third year of our jour- ney together, silently watching the departed ones, for we realized that in one shoit year we too would go forth, become separated, and each iight his battle alone. EXODUS When the trumpets sounded for the assembling of the class for the final year of our journey, it was found that only a few of those who entered the wilderness had endured the hardships and were to see the promised land. But our way was immediately beset with difficulties, and it seemed that the gods were angry. Again we were called together, Cfor it has been said that history repeats itselfj and in an impassioned oration our worthy leader bid fare- well. My country calls me, and I must go, he said, and his voice was filled with much sorrow. And thus he left, and great was the grief of the tribe on giving up such a worthy member. But lo, the gods, seeing our grief, took compassion upon us, and the great conflict ceased, and our leader was returned to us unharmed. Upon his return he called the tribe to assemble, and addressed them, for well it is known that speeches are as bread and meat to him. And it was decided that a history of our deeds should be published in order to record the wonderful ex- ploits of the class, that they might serve as an example and guide for those who were to follow. And wise men were chosen for the work, and immediate prepara- tion for this worthy book was be- gun. But little did they realize the task that had been set before them, for such a vast history as ours needs take many pages. And we planned many things, though the dissension was great, and
