Junior-Senior Banquet The 1985 Junior-Senior Banquet took place in Parkside's cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. on April 19. Scott Needleman, Junior Class President, began the din- ner with an opening speech. Alie's catered the dinner which consisted of salad, roast beef, potato, broccoli with cheese sauce, and Black Forest torte for dessert. Following the meal, everyone proceeded to the auditorium for the awards ceremony. Various awards were presented highlighting unique characteristics of the Seniors. The Seniors then read the class will. Finally it was time for the dance! The Astrotones played for the Juniors, Seniors, and their dates. The evening ended at 11:50 when everyone was ex- hausted from dancing. This year's Junior-Senior Banquet was a tremendous success! Dedication Andrew Smiley began work- ing for the Wicomico County School system in August of 1961. His firstjob was at Coo- per Mill School in his home community of San Domingo. He fondly recalls those early days at Cooper Mill. With its four rooms and four teachers, the school was like one big family. The community itself was very involved with the school. ln 1964 Mr. Smiley became head custodian at Salisbury High. The new job was quite a change - the enrollment there was over 1500! ln 1966, when Salisbury High became the Vo-Tech Center, Mr. Smiley moved to Bennett Senior while Bennett Junior was be- ing completed. He then senfed as head custodiam for Ben- nett Junior for nine years. En- rollment there was also over 1500. Classes were held in the main building, three portable buildings and in the halls! Mr. Smiley, who had earned his Engineers License in 1967, was kept busy operating the boilers and supervising the maintenance of JMB Jr. ln 1975, he was asked to transfer to Parkside where he is now serving as head custodian. August 1985 marks Mr. Smi- ley's twenty-fifth year of ser- vice to the students, teachers and staff of Wicomico County Schools. His concern for the building and grounds and his genuine love of people make Mr. Smiley a special person. The 1985 Yearbook Staff dedi- cates Parkside's tenth anni- versary issue to Andrew T.
