enaissance II Wider participation highlighted this yearis expanded Rennaisance II, which encouraged any willing student to display, sell, andfor demonstrate his talent in the area of arts and crafts. Teri Marker coordinated the event to include showings from the Art, Home Making, and Shop Departments. The exhibit was open during the day for visitation and a good turnout of students and parents returned that evening to enjoy the Home Economics style show, refreshments and more displays. Art teacher David Funk stressed the success of the Renaissance as being that The students and the parents really enjoyed it. 'Alt just happenedf' added Will Herrington, lt was the best Rennaisance we've had. Pillllil The Parkrose Drama Department had a very busy and rewarding year. The Thespians presented three productions in November, March, and May under the professional direction of Jerry Lesch. Enter Laughingv by Joseph Stein was a delightful comedy about a young Jewish boy,s attempts to break into the big world of legitimate theatuhf' It was a showcase for many of the talented actors and actresses and was a fine start for the year. The next challenge tackled by the Thespians was Luv, by Murray Schisgal. It featured three of our senior dramatists and was a tragi-comedy about Ellen, Milt and Harry7s desperate search for love. The final production of the year was a combination of three avant-garde one-act plays, Interview,,' by Jean-Claude Van ltallie, f'This is the Rill Speakingf, by Lanford Wilson, and The Circus of Lifej, written by two Parkrose students, Melissa Mitchell and Bill Johnson. Mr. Lesch stated, I am most proud personally of the spring production. It was the most satisfactory production I have ever donef' Interspersed among the drama productions were numerous drama and speech conferences. Most notable was the 16th Annual Speech Arts Festival held at the University of Portland in January. Parkrose award winners were John Nicola, first in Men's Interpretation, Lyle Chittenden, third in Men's Individual Acting, and Deborah Schilichting and Bill Johnson, second in Talent. Bob Sherman was awarded the coveted W.D.J.K. trophy for outstanding acting. At the end of every year the Thespians vote for the recipients of the best acting awards. The vote this year was extremely close. The winners were John Nicola and Norma Karns for best actor and actress, and Lyle Chittenden and Vicki Nelson for best supporting actor and actress. Mr. Lesch, as drama instructor, awarded six certificates for outstanding
