Principal lVlr. Anderson As this school year ends one must express pessimism concerning mankind's ability to live together in a reasonable and realistic manner. The current state of world and domes- tic affairs brings no logical alternative to this conclusion. No matter howdim the prospects for solutions seem to be at this time, there is a strong ray of hope, and this resides in you, the youth of our nation. Your responsibility is grave and inescapable. Through your educational and personal development to this point, and through the same kind of further development in the future, must come whatever improve- ments and advances we will be able to ex- perience in the years to come. We find ourselves doubting, questioning and protesting. In my opinion, these activities are necessary ingredients ofchange and progress. However, they are not enough. They must be coupled with the seeking of answers, the de- veloping of realistic alternatives, and the building of a faith that the task of improve- ment can be accomplished. The road is not clearly marked and is very surely bumpy. However, the trip is inevitable. The world must have the best of everything that is in the youth of today. The challenge is obvious, and l urge you to accept it with determination. J. W.
