This in- cludes oil paints, ink for drawing and lettering, and tissue paper for colleges. Careful instructions in balance and har- mony help students to improve their tal- ents as well as stimulate interest. Many people may find that their powers of perception are greater as a re- sult of the work they have done in art classes. When draw- ing or painting ob- jects, it is neces- sary to view them more closely.

business HAPPINESS IS K courses Several of the most practical classes offered at Parkrose are the business courses, teaching skills that are now required for a great many clerical jobs. Typing, shorthand, business law, and office practice fall into this category. Some of these may also be very useful for seniors who are planning to go on to college in the near future. The knowledge gained in these courses are invaluable. While specialized business training may confine a person to one field, the combination develops a com- petence that will result in better paying positions and possibilities for greater advancement. shops and homemaking Homemaking skills are important to any pro- spective wife, as well as those who will set up housekeeping on their own. Here, the girls work in the kitchen, baking, and learning to make their own clothes in the sewing room. Several boys are working at right in various shop classes, developing mechanical abili- ties by hours of practice and careful instruc- tion. Above, a student guides a cutting torch in metal shop. These courses are in many ways similar to on the job training.
