The 1979-80 La Reata staff would like to dedicate this year’s annual to one of Parker High’s fine teachers, Mrs. Mary Weil Mrs. Weil came to Parker from Ohio in 1965. She has taught math—basic math algebra, geometry—to hundreds of students here in the 16 years she has been on the staff. Ask any of the old grads what they remember of Mrs. Weil, and they will all tell you of her patience and kindness. She has always been willing to go over and over the problems.. . always been Willing to give extra help . . . always willing to give students every possible chance to learn and to pass the course. Mrs. Weil is also remembered by many students for her interest in Pom Pons and the Drama Club over the years. For some seniors, their last year was the end of a long twelve years of study and fun. Now that graduation is over, there are no more teachers, tests, and worry about missing the juicy gossip of the week. Of course there wouldn’t be any more of the activities either, such as sock hops, rallies and sports events. But was P.H.S. possibly the beginning? Hasn’t it provided us with knowledge for the world out there. It has and it was the beginning of our future. 68 Back Row: Dale White. Donald Smith. Mike Winterboer. Mr. Kurnutt. Steven Price. It was dominated by underclassmen so the teams in the future should be very strong. Parker had 10 defeats this year over the whole season. Carmen Pond showed a lot o spirit and determination holding up the girls end of Cross Country. She ran in all the meets and performed well, often running the boys course and defeating some of the male runners. 98 Opponents Parker Boulder City 46 52 I Mohave 22 Kingman 34 Independence 39 38 Blythe 40 15 Ajo 54 44 1 Buckeye 32 24 Pheonix Indian 18 37 Mohave 38 Kingman 54 71 Ajo 53 Boulder City 31 24 Buckeye 70 Mohave 43 Baboquivari 59 120 Peoria 69 Ajo 113 Pheonix Indian 15 Ajo 58 64 Lake Havasu 60 Kingman 34 65 Dysart 61 A-Central Divisionals Parker came in fourth State-Parker came in ninth in all of Class A OPPONENTS PARKER •1 k ▼ jo Lake Havasu 0 L 44 Antelope J.V. wF™ 1 zjjr o Kingman ' Mohave 10 16 19 Lake Havasu 1 6 28 Kingman 15 22 Mohave 20 24 Boulder City 0 12 1979-80 I Twenty-two frosh completed a successful season that started with a shutout of Havasu (44-0) and ended with a shutout of Boulder C.ty (12-0). Offensively the team averaged 25 points a game while giving up only 9 points per game. The team steadily improved their play and decreased the amount of mistakes in each game. In the final game of the season only two penalities were called against the team. The only loss of the season was to a J.V. team from Antelope. The season was very satisfying from all points of view. I did a lot of praying, but most of the time the answer was no. Seriously, we were very inexperienced, with only 6 returning players. I think this was a good rebuilding year, we will return 16 lettermen next year. We learned many important lessons, but I think the most important lessons, was. that we must play 100% every minute of every game. This is even more significant since we moved into a new and tougher conference. We ended up with a 15 win-9 loss overall season record and a 11 win-4 loss conference record which tied us for second place with two other teams. In a play-off game we defeated Mohave 2-1 in extra innings for the right to go to STATE. Unfortunately. we ran into trouble and lost the first game 9-0 to Sahuarita. Hard work and good intensity produced 3 all-conference picks, one all-stater a third place in the Blythe tournament, and a trip to state. It provided experience for the rookies and memories for the Seniors. 117 o Top Row. L to R. Tee Neeper, Don Klaus. Virgil Smith. Jonathan Logan. Guy Keott. Sam Eswonia. Joe Lomayesva Middle Row. It’s time to face the new world ahead, time to earn our own milk and bread. But remember the times we had: some were good, some were bad; We laughed and cried, and how we tried! But we never would give up our pride. The friends we had we’ll always remember and we'll come back in 1990, on the 22nd of December. You were always around when I needed you. And even when I didn’t I knew you were nearby And as I sit and remember all of my good times, The ones I spent with you were the happiest of my life. But even though we have now parted, and gone our separate ways. I'll always have my memories of those very special days. '____ Back row L to R: Shawn Pence.
