Illi LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL Itjb JKQJL (j uA6 . . . . It's good times with good friends. It's the rhythm of dancing feet at school dances, party-going teens, and boys sauntering lazily through the halls. It's too many activities squeezed into too little time, and the thrill of cheering for your team. These are all yours. It's emphasis on education. It's the challenge of advanced math and chemistry. It's the general assemblies, and little talks by Mr. Frokjer. These, too, are all yours. Whoever you are, whatever you do, you are a part of this story. It's your year, and we, the Torch staff of '61, have done our best to help preserve these memories for you. We are sure the entire student body of Lincoln High will join us in these warmest of thanksJ Mr. Johnson attended college in his home town, namely Eau Claire. In 1957 he joined the faculty of Lincoln High and started teaching World History and American History classes. He also took over his duties as Torch Staff advisor. Before entering college, Mr. Johnson joined the Air Force and was sent to Europe. Here he had many exciting experiences and took numerous slides, both of which he has willingly shared with all of us. Both in and out of class, he has guided many students. His many stories and jokes have brightened the days for all. Once again may we say: THANK YOU MR. JOHNSON JJ Dennis Toney was born on August 5, 19kh. He attended St. Anthony's Grade School and graduated from there in the spring of 1959 He came to Lincoln High in the fall of 1959, and was in his sophomore year at Lincoln when he died, at the age of 16, on January 9, 1961. Dennis was very active in sports and class activities. Known and well-liked by both students and teachers here at Lincoln High, he will always be missed. -5- eptembeA, 9 PF at Hurley—VFB 1' VFB—Ashland at PF JVFB—PF at Tomahawk ?9 JVFB—PF at Phillips 4 JVFB—Lakeland at PF VFB—PF at Lakeland 10 Assembly (Nutchuk) 11 One Act Plays—PF Gym 14 Homecoming (PF vs Mosinee) 15 JVFB—PF at Ashland 13 Play Contest at Lakeland 19 Biology Field Trip 20 JVFB—Medford at PF 21 VFB—PF at Medford 24 Assembly (David Williams) End of Nine ! reeks Sadie Hawkin’- 1 End of Nine Week 4 Sadie Hawkins Dance 8 Athletic Banquet 12 Cheerleader's Clinic (Phillips) 18 VBB—PF at Rhinelander 29 VBB—Hurley at PF Pep Assembly 21 to Deer Hunting Vacation 23 -6- 1 FIB—Rhinelander at PF VBB—PF at Mosinee 6 VBB—PF at Ashland 3 FBB--PF at PhilliDs 9 VBB—Phillips at PF 12 Assembly (Robert Christopher) 13 VBB—Rib Lake at PF 14 Class-Or raniz tion Pictures T'ken 15 FBB—PF at Tomahavk 16 VBB—Tomah'vk at PF 20 Christmas Concert 23 Junior Class Dance 24 School Closses for Vacation 3 School Resumes 10 VBB—PF at Hayward 12 FBB—Medford at PF 13 VBB—PF at Medford 17 End of 1st Semester 19 FBB—PF at Lakeland 20 V33—Lakeland at PF Pep As embly 24 FBB—Phillips at PF 26 Stevens Point B-md Concert 27 VBB—PF at Phillips 31 FBB—PF at Rhinelander 3 Mosinee at PF Assembly (FredLowery) 9 FBB—Tomahavk at PF 10 VBB—PF t Tomahavk 14 VBB—Irom-'ood at PF 16 FBB—PF at Medford 17 VBB—Medford at PF 23 FBB—Lakeland at PF 24 VBB—PF at Lakeland -7— yy (xxxj 2 3 Regional Basketball Tournament 4 7 NEDT test Merit Scholarship test 20 Conference Volleyball Tourney 21 End of 3rd Nine Weeks 30 31 Easter Vacation JKpjyJJL 1-3 Easter Vacation 4 Assembly (Charles King) 8 Solo-Ensemble Festival 10 Trees For Tomorrow 12 22 Girl's Play Day 23 Prom 6 State Music Festival 12 Conference Track Meet 13 Band Festival at Medford 2.5 GRADUATION -8- Nothing now is left but Majestic Memories.” — Longfellow $C4U4 0 lCgAA It was September, 1957, when 35 Freshmen cautiously mingled with the other students of Lincoln High School. Paradise of the Deep was the theme of the prom presented by the Class of '61. On April 29, I960, the gym was beautifully decorated as an under-water world of fish, mermaids, sunken ships, treasure, and sea life. Our queen, Ronnie Kay Edwards, and her king, Jerry Westphal reigned over the memorable event. The royal court was made up of Nancy Olingy and Tom Mader, Vicki Habeck and Don MacGregor, Sherry Gustafson and Ken Kolar, and Helen Resar and Bill Wocelka. The crown-bearers were Robyn Tryggeseth and Mike Soper. Everyone danced to the strains of our theme song, Stranger in Paradise, played by Jerry Steuber and the Squires of Schofield, Wisconsin. We look back on our prom with pride in our achievement of so successfully maintaining one of the traditional events of Lincoln High School. Lennie Steinacker Dennis Lahti Jan Kronberger George Michalsici Julie Oswald Spike MacGregor Bonnie Herbst Gary Erickson QUEEN Bunnie Michalski KING Bernie Schmidt 1 61 homecoming Activities got underway with the snake dance and bonfire. The excitement was inspired by pep rallies at each corner on main street. The Homecoming parade was held Friday afternoon. The Senior's float, We'll Fly to Victory, took first place in the competition. Our Dance, Touchdown Triumphs, was not dispirited by our defeat at the hands of the Mosinee Indians. -63- Back Row: P.
