They now look upon their Alma Mater with just and honest pride, for we who work at Paris High School have set our main goal a way of developing indi- viduals for the highest type of personal and social liv- ing of which they are capable. Education to those of us here is conceived as a continuous process of people working together to solve their problems in satisfying ways. The quality of the life of the school is dependent upon cooperative planning for the solution of these problems. May your training here stand you in good stead for all of your future years and may you, too, pause and, as others before you, say, C'est vnagnijiqne, n'est-ce pas? fIt's magnificent, isn't it?j PARIS BOARD OF EDUCATION --DISTRICT No. 95 Leftito right-Mr. Art Roberts, Dr, W. Page Six Administrators A school is a community whose 1-CI'1'lbC1'S, the ad- ministrators, teachers, service personnel, and students, reside for specific periods within certain boundaries and share a government aimed toward providing the necessary order and the maximum comfort for group living. The school newspaper disseminates information to all. The graded curriculum allows the students, the majority members, to plan for individual scholastic achievement. The student council provides them repre- sentation in government. In this community, members learn to work and play together. They learn, either as participants or spectators, through classrooms and clubs, through gym and field, through concerts and plays. Although the time spent in this community by most of the members is relatively brief, the impact on them is great. The achievements gained, the friendships formed, and the good times shared are all enduring experiences. CHARLES K. The game was a thriller from start to finish with Tuscola emerging victoriously, 27-19. The highlight-in the third quarter a beautiful 91-yard touchdown run by Clark Dorsett. The following week the Tigers travelled to Mar- shall. Long an arch rival, the game started out as if the Tigers were to meet their second defeat, with Marshall scoring first. With the passing of Bill Piper, the Tigers fought back to win 20-7. Eastern State spoiled the Tigers, short victory string. Eastern scored early in the first quarter, and from then on it was a matter of good defensive football on the part of both teams. Paris entertained the Casey Warriors on October 9 on the Tigers' homefield. This victory was achieved by the exceptional playing of the Paris line. Highlights-Buddy Goins getting off an 85- yard run for the first score, and Don Briel intercepting a pass and returning the ball 79 yards for a touchdown to turn back Casey 13-0. Homecoming saw the Tigers go down fighting 25-13 to one of the outstanding teams in the E. I. League, Effingham. The Tigers were proud of the play of their star tackle, jim Cushman. On October 23 the Tigers defeated the Charleston Trojans at Charleston. One of the most exciting games of the season was played on October 30 on the Tigers' home- field. Going into the fourth quarter and trailing 13-0, the Tigers fought back with the tenacity of a great team to eke out a 14-13 victory over a powerful Georgetown crew. Connecting on an 81-yard pass play in the last 90 seconds of play, Robinson turned a tie into victory. Both teams played ex- ceptionally iine defensive football with Jim Cushman and Forrest Sawlaw leading the Paris team. Paris finished the 1953 season with a 28-0 victory over Oakland. Senator Douglas made an address on the economic, military, and diplomatic position of the United States. Subsequently, Senator Dirksen spoke on the same subject. Neither man knew the content of the other speech, but the two ad- dresses constituted informally a debate on the views of the opposing political parties. Both Senators were gracious in answering questions from the audience and in meeting and talking with individuals. VISITING CELEBRITIES Senator Douglas opened the debate in the morning. Senator Dirksen arrived in the afternoon to continue the program. THE NEW AUDITORIUM I During the summer and fall of 1953 the School Board made arrangements for remodeling the auditorium. It was acoustically treated, and the ceiling was lowered four feet. New draperies were purchased to match the redecorating. A new lighting system was installed with all new wiring. Footlights were revamped and many more spotlights added. An expensive set of dimmers was installed. The heating system was improved and repaired.
