OUR SCHOOL Eugene L. Johnson, B.A., M.A. Superintendent of the Paris Public Schools Public High Schools Public schools must serve all the people. In this service we recognize the fact that there are differences among students as they seek help in making their best adjustment and contributions to community life. Today schools accept, as a first objective, preparation for citizenship in a democracy. Every great American leader from the days of Washington to the present day has insisted that without a system of free universal education democracy is doomed. Today, as never before, the responsibilities of the schools are being extended. The schools are continuing to take a genuine human interest in the college preparatory student, but now they have an equal interest in the vocational-minded individual as well as in the individual who has not yet found himself. Teachers strive to teach youth in the subject matter areas; yet they are aware of that greater responsibility—preparation for citizenship in a democracy. PARIS BOARD OF EDUCATION Left Mr. Eugene L.
