Media Class STUDENTS ACCEPT AWARD Four students representing last year's and this year's Me- dia Classes went to Denver to receive the Rocky Mountain Center on the Environment QROMOCOEJ award in the youth division. Students De- anne Springer, Dona Morrow, Mike Czaja and Bill McGee were accompanied by Media in- structor Mrs. Marge Porteus and director of Special Serv- ices Laddie Livingston. The class was selected for the award over nominees in an eight-state region because of work with the community and coal companies. Members have been gathering and disseminat- ing information about coal mine expansion and effects it may have on the people, community and environment. ESEA personnel gave a re- ception for the students at the Department of Education. Also attending were Art Tschannen from Coors. Andrew DeBonski from the Bureau of Mines, as well as representatives from BLM and Coltzrado Division of Wildlife. Students presented a slide-tape on impact. produced by Brian Hughes, and a display by Sandra Bruce. At the awards luncheon at Denver Botanical Gardens Mrs. Porteus accepted the award and introzltzced the students. Al- so attending from last year's class were Clayton Bruce and Doug Gosling, freshman at CU, and Bill Bniiey, a freshman at NE College at Sterling. As a response to the awardl the four high school students briefly explained the purpose of the prograin. A11 recipients were honored at an awards banquet held at the Marrott Hotel. The speaker was Roy D. Chapin Jr., chair- man of the board, American Motors. Rep. Bob Burford and Sen. Tilman Bishop invited the group to visit the legislature. They watched representatives at work and were introduced from the gallery by Rep. Bur- ford. Burford later took them to ltuich. The award is a bronze eagle by the internationally known animal sculptor Kenneth Bunn of Denver. He especially de- signed the sculpture of the ROMCOE awards program -Mike Czaja 4 FRONT ROW: D.
