We sincerely appreciate you. Thank you , Mona L . Booth Editor Sponsored by: MR. and MRS . DON FOSTER ffm , awww! The greatest challenge for public education is to cause learners to raise their levels of delivery to be consistent with high levels of expectation. But to cause achievement at those high levels requires committment both by the teacher and by the student- by the teacher to caring, sharing , and daring: and by the student to anticipation, application , and evaluation . PHS in 1975-76 was a place where teachers cared enough to allow students to know they were loved: shared enough to allow students to grow academi- cally, intellectually, and socially, and dared enough to motivate students to reach their highest goals. PHS in 1975-76 was also a place where students anticipated what experiences would be helpful toward meeting their individual goals: applied what they know to solving problems and making decisions for their future: and evaluated who they were, where they were going, and how close they were to arriving . A year that was at times frustrating, ennervating, maddening, disconcerting, stultifying, even vic- timizingg most often 1975-76 was invigorating, refreshing, strengthening, fortifying, sustaining, and vivifying. Always it was PHS - and always we were Eagles. And in those two things alone is wrapped all the pride and tradition that causes the people who live there to know we are the best. BEAR COAL MINEI Media Class STUDENTS ACCEPT AWARD Four students representing last year's and this year's Me- dia Classes went to Denver to receive the Rocky Mountain Center on the Environment QROMOCOEJ award in the youth division. Students De- anne Springer, Dona Morrow, Mike Czaja and Bill McGee were accompanied by Media in- structor Mrs. Marge Porteus and director of Special Serv- ices Laddie Livingston. The class was selected for the award over nominees in an eight-state region because of work with the community and coal companies. Members have been gathering and disseminat- ing information about coal mine expansion and effects it may have on the people, community and environment. ESEA personnel gave a re- ception for the students at the Department of Education. Also attending were Art Tschannen from Coors. Andrew DeBonski from the Bureau of Mines, as well as representatives from BLM and Coltzrado Division of Wildlife. Students presented a slide-tape on impact. produced by Brian Hughes, and a display by Sandra Bruce. At the awards luncheon at Denver Botanical Gardens Mrs. Porteus accepted the award and introzltzced the students. Al- so attending from last year's class were Clayton Bruce and Doug Gosling, freshman at CU, and Bill Bniiey, a freshman at NE College at Sterling. As a response to the awardl the four high school students briefly explained the purpose of the prograin. A11 recipients were honored at an awards banquet held at the Marrott Hotel. The speaker was Roy D. Chapin Jr., chair- man of the board, American Motors. Rep. Bob Burford and Sen. Tilman Bishop invited the group to visit the legislature. They watched representatives at work and were introduced from the gallery by Rep. Bur- ford. Burford later took them to ltuich. The award is a bronze eagle by the internationally known animal sculptor Kenneth Bunn of Denver. He especially de- signed the sculpture of the ROMCOE awards program -Mike Czaja 4 FRONT ROW: D.
