The new members were: Robbie Cash, Edna Mae Cunningham, Dorotha Mae Foster, Onatta Grayson, Wanda Moore, Voleta Huffman, Nadine Mankin, Alma Smith and Janie Warren. There are twenty-four members in the club this year. LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE The Poteau F. H. A. Club invited the local chapter to their school, October Znd, for the annual Leadership Conference. Twelve schools were present with approximately ZOO girls attending. The rally was over at three o'clock, but the girls spent the remainder of the afternoon shopping in Poteau. At five-thirty a group of tired girls arrived at Panola. HOME ECONOMICS DAY On November lZth, National Home Economics Day was observed at the Panola Home Economics Department. In the afternoon there was an assembly program to tell the school patrons what is being accomplished in the homemaking classes At two o clock a tea was given at the homemaking building with the Junior I-Iomemakxng girls being hostesses A motion picture was shown to the school Are You Popular CHRISTMAS PARTY The Future Homemakers Christmas Party was given December 20th in the Home Economics living room Edna Mae Query and Robbie Gray were the hostesses who planned various games Bags of popcorn were served and gifts were exchanged A clever game was played for opening the gifts F H A YEAR S WORK September bringing in the new members October working for the good of homes for all November educational opportunity in community December family relations in foreign countries Guest speaker was Mr Thomas Pate January good citizenship in the home February family problems March health clinic April love never faileth May achievement day NATIONAL PROJECT The Panola F H A has chosen for their national project of the year to help with the adoption of a German Homemakmg Class McAlester Crowder Red Oak and Panola have sent gift packages to this class A friendly relationship with t German Class has been developed by the girls through letters of appreciation ZZ I . . . . , , ' I I U 9 n A . . . Mr. Enis, Kenneth Denton, Bobby Brown. 23 'T 4 I-I CLUB One of the most active clubs at Panola IS the 4 H Club w1th twenty nine members The officers of the club are Mary Pahlon President Bobby Brown Vice Presldent Mary Huffman Secretary and Jack Query Reporter The star of Panola 4 H IS Raymond Bagwell who has piled up a 11st of successes in his 4 H Club work This year he has won the following awards trip to Muskogee State Fair First Pr1ze in crop Judging at the fair which was ten dollars award He is also a member of the Poultry and Crop Judging team that won S25 at the State Fair Another active member of the 4 H Club is Roy Pate who is raxslng a fat steer for the annual Eastern Oklahoma Pure Bred Beef Cattle Show that is on March 7th 8th and 9th JUNIOR PLAY The Iun1or Class presented their play Aunt Samanthy Rules The Roost in March The characters were as follows Aunt Samanthy Doris Bankston Serena and Sophie Simpklns Mary Nell Warren and Margie Knox Buddy Baskins Leonard Lively Blanche Bowers Earlme Gray Polly Paine Betty Mickle Lucien Boswell Haskell Powell and Billy Ray Brown Lawrence Lovewell Otis Watkins MOVIES Another new addition to the educational facilities this year has been the Mov1e Projector The projector is used for presenting educational films at school A few of the films that were enJoyed by the students were Irish Linen As You Like Them Meat And Romance Search And Security and Are You Popular In addition to these educational films several other films were shown Some of these were Junior Mlss and The House On 92nd Street SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM The greatest aid in helping achieve a better nutritional status for every American is our School Lunch Program Correct food habits are taught in health classes and the lunch room is used as a model Various Art and Homemaking classes make the room more attractive by use of colorful and meaningful posters for educating children 1n nutrition health cleanliness and avoiding waste While talking about making the lunch room attractive the fact that food to be palatable looking and appetizing must be arranged on the trays in an attractive manner should not be overlooked Ye Olde Eye Appeal has a lot to do with what or how much is eaten Remember friends make food taste better ,Z4 . . - I . . I A Littlefield, Bob McKeeg Annie Ambrose, Juanita Lowryg Frank Fairfield and Blair LABOR DAY PARADE At the annual Labor Day Parade in Wllburton the Panola Senior Class won first prize on their float Golden Ear Rings The float was a covered gypsy wagon It was driven by B111 Shumate and the gypsy girls gayly dressed walking along side the wagon were Thelma Lawrence Barbara Nash Dahlia Smith and Dorotha Mae Foster Gypsy music was played by Augustus Stanback The Seniors received twenty five dollars whlch was a substantial begxnnmg toward their trip FRESHMAN INI'l TATION On the fateful day of September 17th the entire mnoc ent class of Freshmen were turned over to the Seniors to be 1mt1ated into the grand and hxgh order of Panola High School At two thirty that afternoon various tortures were given out by the cruel and merciless Seniors under the direction of Gene Garner Master of Ceremonies After due punxshment was given the Freshmen all soaking wet invited the Seniors to a party Refreshments were served and the Seniors agreed that the Freshmen were very good sports ARMISTIC E DAY they were honored with the guest speaker being Senator Gladstone Emery He gave a very appropriate address THE MAGIC SHOW On December l5th a professional magician came here He brought a large show with him birds ducks goldfish rabbits and his magic wand He pulled silk hankies out of empty boxes changed milk to goldfish and even said he could hypnotize Just ask Jack Query about that All in all it was a very enjoyable show and the audience was mystxfied with his various wonders HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL A gala event was the annual Halloween Carnival held on October 29th Each class sponsored an entertainment such as the Bingo Stand Fish Pond Fun House and Food Stands Students from Lutie presented a lively and entertaining program The Senior Class presented an unusual sketch Beantown Baby Show The high pomt of the evening was the crowning of the Carnival Queen Robbie Jean Cash of the Freshman Class Candmdates were presented with corsages by Mary Lea Booth the flower glrl and Stanley Maxwell the crown bearer Z5 ' . . . .
