Pop,' Klcliale was master-4if-ceremonies at the attair where speeches and anecdotes were featured. lfred liatiste was elected captain by his teammates a11d named the most valuable player. Twenty-nine players were awarded letters. Hee. l7, 1943-XYe were thrilled to open the paper this morning and see that lfred Ilatiste and NYrinferd 'l'ackett had been named on the 'fkrizona Republic's all-state team and Grid had been selected as coach. llill liickley. tackle, won a berth on the second team, while guard Frank lloiee and center Bob Young were voted on the third team. Alohn Muse, liert l'ratt. and .Xrmando Carrillo were awarded honorable mention. lior twelve seniors on the squad. N943 was their linal football season for the dura- tion. Next year, probably most of them will be training for a real battle of life or death instead of a friendly gridiron contest. MESA 20. lt was a t'earfttl. nnknowing feeling we had when we once again traveled to a distant city. this time for a return game with Mesa. Being' the sea.son's finale. much depended on the game tonight. lt our boys lost, they would lose a possible share in the state championship, the Glen- dale Cardinals, the other contender, having ended their season without a defeat. .X heavy eight game victory string burdened our team and in this game they had everything to win and plenty to lose. The two titans put on a great ottensire show. lfirst one team would score and then the other.
