fill' The Lyres' Men Katy and jan .fqzwi Glad We were members ol that honored and envied society. the l.yres Club, an atliliation of the High School Hand. and it is not l.iars but lyres-you know, musical instrnf ments like harps. that angels play on. In the Tucson Senior lligh Hand room there were certain rules it was our duty to enforce. For instance. that custom that no one wearing green socks or suspenders was allowed in the band room, or not for long anyway. XYith the aid of a good sized paddle. with holes in the hall while the wearer went barefooted inside. and the suspenders dangling from pant- waists. I don't know what we did in 1944 except have a lot of fun. Wie only needed two ofhcers-president. XYildon Pickett. to head the organization, and Sargeant-at- .Xrms, Donald Texas'l lloward. to make it possible for Fickett to head us. This club was really exclusive. XVe had only six active members and three mem- bers in the Navy, Vtleber Starns, Roger Carl and Glenn Johnson. lt was a great honor while in High School to be a member of the Lyres Club. and we certainly hope that future l.yres Clubers will preserve our good name. habits, and duties. Ma Mahan ln this corner we haven-our lovely Senior secretary, better known as 'flan' lfriedman. Since .lanice had absolutely zzntlzilzg to do this year. we bestowed upon ber the title of .Xctivity Ticket Subscription Drive Chairman. tTo the sopho- mores this news means that she was the one who put the pressure on you to buy those little green booklets. better known as 'lYe Olde Activity Ticket. j Since -lan isnlt one to do anything hall-way. the drive went over the top with a Final tally of 1242 ,Xctivity Tickets sold. Kloving slowly down the hall. who do we meet but Katie OyDowd. She was the capable head of this years Magazine Drive. Yes. it was she who inspired the Sophomores twhy do we always pick on themil with the noble words Does vonr magazine read ditterent lately?, it so, switch to a t'urtiss magazine. all types' and kinds for every taste, and words to that ettect. Seriously, however, the drive certainly benelited the school, netting a total of 553461.08 for the Student Hodv lfund. The three high homerooms in the drive were Kliss favett. Nlr. Romero. and Mr. ll-arringer.
