' Glad The l.etternien's Club is very well known for the beatinv' its initiates received, tw and this year the few that survived had a year that top Jed the other. Under l the leadership of Football Coach Rollin tiiridley the lsettermenls Club got under this year with Xtrenferd Tackett acting as president of the group, While Bert Pratt lilled the position of vice-president and Bob Young that of secretary-treasurer. llut, since several of the club's outstanding athletes left for Uncle Samls armed services after mid-semester graduation, a few changes were made in the executive boardf' Bert Pratt succeeded Tackett, and Pete Pullen was elected vice-president. The club has a very colorful history which goes something like this: The organi- zation was started several years ago by C. L. McFarland, then head coach of Tue- son High. and the purpose of the club has from that time on been to combine good fellowship of all boys earning letters in the four major sports. The club has always had chances that topped all the others. lt seems a habit of the club to pick some nove1,' idea that really goes over big. This year the athletes topped off their almost too colorful initiation of some twenty odd, yes very odd, new members. with a successful Backwards Dance. All who attended this dance experienced a very novel and enjoyable evening in which every- thing from the programs to the tirand March was held contrary to the usual pro- cedure. XVe had 2-1 members and we worked half-hour shifts at all the dancesg hut alter multiplying 24 times 30 minutes, don't get the idea that each dance lasted 12 hours. They didnlt. Two or three of us Worked together on our different johs. XYe sold tickets and watched the checkroom. Boy. is that check room a job! I remember that night that Billions Bill Biekley and his date had to wait 'til nearly two o'elock in the morning to get his coat. because Hill lost the little orange ticket. .Xhl hut is life. From then on Bickley was given a safety pin. We just love to give dances and gave them on every provocation-a haskethall game, haskethall tournaments, and just plain social hours. XVe were all elected when we were juniors and as our president we had l.yle Mor- rison, Vice-prexy, Mot XX'illianis. and Secretary Gail lilson. We didn't eleet ollieers, but we intend to next year. and all the years afterwards. Bliss l.illian Cavett did a grand job of teaching ns the fundamentals of the stage.
