ENROLLMENT 1 he first location of Palm Beach Junior College was in what is now the science build- ing of Palm Beach High School. Jn 1947 the college moved to its second site at Morrison Field, now Palm Beach Air Force Base. There the students en- joyed dormitory life and made use of recreational facilities, in- cluding tennis courts, volleyball courts, and a swimming pool. JVl orrison Field was reactivated in 1951 and PBJC moved to its third temporary home in the city hall of the Town of Lake Park. 1 n September 1 956, on a 1 1 4-acre tract near Lake Os- borne, the first of five modern buildings was completed, and the doors were opened to the largest student body in PBJC history. President John I. Leon- ard had realized his dream of a permanent campus, and the college at last had a home of its very own. 16 wwwwm 936 931 938 o 939 -fi 9H0 X 0) ID Q. f9 l fvm l9 X t9H3 19 ? f94e a. o t9S0 9Sl 3 953 1155 9iy4 9 6 1 J3 93e

p. aim Beach Junior College, after twenty-five years of service and three temporary locations, celebrated its silver anniversary in 1958 on its permanent 114 acre campus in Lake Worth, Florida. if n the mid-depression days of the early 1950 ' s, County Super- intendent of Public Instruction, Joe A. Youngblood, and Mr. Howell L. Watkins, then supervising principal of Central Schools, conceived the idea of a junior college for the Palm Beaches. The plan crystallized when the first class was admitted in 1 933. n September of 1936, Dr. John I. Leonard succeeded Mr. Young- blood as County Superintendent and was named president of the college. After twenty-two years as president. Dr. Leonard retired in the fall of 1958. Dr. Harold C. Manor was chosen to succeed Dr. Leonard. Vl ' any silver and anniversary events— a luncheon, dinner, tea, and dance— honored the retiring president and the new president. These events reached a climax in the Silver Anniversary Convocation, which paid tribute to the late Mr. Youngblood and to Mr. Watkins as the founders of the college. This also saw the inauguration of Dr. Manor as the second president of Palm Beach Junior College. C he college anticipates a period of unprecedented growth, expan- sion, prosperity, and service under the guida nce of Dr. Manor.
