Pacifica can always expect numer- ous titles and honors when it comes to athletics. Achievements which might make a lesser program sali- vate insatiably are com- monplace to Mariners. The I979-80 school year was no different. Pacifica's soccer team earned the school's first CIF crown and took its fourth straight league title. The football team won the GGL cham- pionship Csurpriselj for the eighth straight year. and the wrestling squad en- P r .p -I I- ' l I q .txt 5 5 'Q 4 Q ' . ' ' 'f,.t, - Q. joyed its second consecu- tive year at the top, But spring has always been the most athletic sea- son at Pacifica. The base- ball and track teams are fa- vorites to win titles, and the tennis and golf squads, like that of cross country. should advance to CIF. Individual Mariners also fared well. Russ Burdeno was voted 2-A soccer play- er of the year and Richard Oakley became the first Pa- cifica wrestler to reach the state tournament in five years.
