Not pictured: Stephanie Owing. J V Cagers Lend Strong Support To V3fS1ty Team With only three returning J.V. players the .l.V. basketball team made a strong showing in early season games. Tracy Brown did an outstandingjob at point guard for the team while Shari and Lori Manson gave excellent Hoover played as forwards for the Mariners. However early in the season the coaches decided to disband the .l.V. team. All ofthe J.V. players were moved up to the varsity team. They gave strong enthusiastic support to the Mariner varsity squad as they provided the now greatly improved varsity team with the strength to overpower the league. Although the beginning of the season looked bleak for the two teams the coaches as well as the players are expecting a great season. performances with both girls playing post guard. ...---...E ariner Tracksters d Sprint Towar Victory .. x. . The Pacifica Mariner girls track team began an over- powering season this year with tremendous individual performances by all runners. The team was led by Sue Young in the 440 Jill Rife in the 100 and the 220 Renee Reynolds in the mile and two mile Julie Curry in the Sprints and hurdles Karen Sweat in the 880 and the mile and Dana Kriesel in the 440 and the hurdles. Sue Young the only senior on the team this year has an awesome individual season in store for her. She has tremendous potential in the 440 yard dash, as she hopes to qualify for the California State Meet this year in Sacramento. She is backed by the other outstanding runners on the team as the Mariners aim for the first-ever league title in a newly formed girls' league. After surrering two close defeats in non-league meets against Morningside and West Tor- V51 .-'W - . . . ' - 4 at , ' L i' rance, the team rolled to a 72-18 victory over La Quinta f Q f , '- ,' .V in its first league meet, beginning a track season that will .J i . - . . . -r Q -ig, , . inevitably end in victory for the Mariners.
