Mariner Of The Year Shane Bengford has distinguished himself in the field of athletics in more ways than one. His outstanding participation in football, basketball and baseball is well known. For the excellence, talent, dedication and achievement Shane has demon- strated, he has been awarded with this year's Mariner of the Year award. Shane's obvious talent began to show itself early. In his freshman year he was named team captain and Most Valuable Player of his freshman football team. He continued his stand of excellence and was again voted Most Valuable Player of his sophomore football team. Shane's talent was displayed once again on the baseball team. He played on the junior varsity baseball team his sophomore and junior year and was voted the Most Inspirational Player on the junior varsity team. Shane also played junior varsity basketball his junior year. But Shane's real talents appeared during his two years on the Varsity football team. Shane played both offensive and defensive positions and he helped lead the team to their sixth and seventh consecutive League Titles. He was awarded a position on the Second Team All League in his junior year and First Team All League in his senior year. He was also on the First Team All Orange County and was, once again, awarded Most Valuable Player of Pacifica's first football team to go to the CIF finals. Next year, Shane plans to attend Orange Coast College where he will probably continue his football career. He hopes to be a business major in college. But no matter what Shane does, his great athletic talent will prob- ably aid him to achieve far greater honors than he has seen here at Pacifica. Good luck, Shane. Shane Bengford Outstanding Athlete

Pete Younger There is little, Brad Helm has failed to accomplish during his short three-year stay here at Pacifica. His motivation and success in all that he has set out to do have earned him the Pete Younger Memorial Award and Scholarship. In the classroom, Brad has maintained a high 3.9 grade point average while participating in his many extra-curricular activities. He is an Honors student, a member to C.S.F. and will graduate a Seal Bearer. Because of Brad's combined academic and athletic ability, he has been recruited by many colleges including Harvard University, Brown University and Dartmouth College. Brad hopes to attend Harvard and study architecture. Brad's successful term as A.S.B. President was one of the many factors that established his reputation as a dedicated and purposeful leader. He was selected to represent his Senior class in Washington, D.C., as a participant in A Presidential Classroom for Young Americans. Brad was also voted Co-Ed King at the Co-Ed last February and was the Co-Chairperson to the Nominat- ing Convention in January. Athletically, it is doubtful that Pacifica will soon again see a talent as great as Brad's. Brad played three years of Varsity Football and was awarded a position on the All League team two years in a row. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the Garden Grove League. Brad was elected Captain of this year's football team that led Pacifica to its seventh consecutive Brad Helm Memorial Award League Title and to the final round of the CIF playoffs. Brad's talents also extended to basketball and baseball. He played on the Varsity basketball team this year and on the junior varsity team hisjunior year. He was a member of the Varsity baseball team all three of his high school years and in his sophomore year he aided the team to its first League Title in four years. Brad Helm is a student who has increased our pride in Pacifica. With all of these accomplishments behind him and the outlook of only more success ahead of him, Brad's future holds only happiness for him and those around him. Athlete ' Leader ' Scholar

, W, .w. The field of women's athletics is a quickly rising world and it is because of athletes like Misty Campbell that this field is finally receiving the recognition it deserves. For her talent and achievements in girls sports at Pacifica, Misty has earned the award of Mariner of the Year . Misty's career began in volleyball. She was unable to play Varsity volleyball her freshman year due to the CIF ruling that does-abt allow Pacifica Freshmin to play on Varsity team. This only held her back momentarily though, and she was soon playing on the Varsity team in her sophomore year. She was vot6i1fMost Valuable Player of her varsity volleyball team. ng-. Basketball was Misty's best sport and she played on the team for four years, on thejunior varsity team her freshman and sophomore years and on the Varsity team her junior and senior years. She was voted Most Valuable Player of the junior Varsity basketball team. Her talents did not end with just two sports, though. Misty played Varsity softball herjunior and senior years. Obviously, her talents are many sided, for they also extend into the classroom. She has maintained a 3.2 average while taking such difficult courses as Functional Math Analysis and Physics. Misty plans to attend Cal Poly Pomona and wants to become an engineer. She hopes to continue her athletic career and if she does, she will probably bring the distinction to women's sports that is deserved. I-Ier future only looks bright with success. ariner Of The Year Misty Campbell Outstanding Athlete l
