The accelerated chemistry course did more experimentation on a college laboratory level. New equipment consisted ofa pH meter for measuring acidity, and radioactive equipment including a scaler- active rate meter. The total cost was approximately I,O0O dollars. The funds were supplied by the Atomic Energy Commission in Wash- ington, D.C. where Mr. Macomber, one of our chemistry teachers, studied during the summer of I959. ath-Science Department ln keeping with all other departmental additions and im- provements, the Math-Science Department supplemented their program with five new teachers and a further advanced study in Science and Math. New equipment was added in all the science areas as well as in mathematics. Some of this equipment was obtained in part from Federal Funds avail- able under the National Defense Act. A new transpaque proiector was brought into use in order to help in the devel- opment of Math. The Math-Science Department participated in the Inland Science Fair. Pacific has had sweepstakes winners go on to the National Science Fair for the last three years. Through the Math Club, the department sponsored the Math Marathon in the spring in which the junior highs of San Bernardino send participants for the field day. They also sponsored the Science and Engineering Club. The Bausch and Lomb Science Award was presented to the outstanding science student each year at the awards assemblies. -f 3 U' ITA? Ii ii .
