Student govern- ment fills this need, meeting as a regular class with an enrollment of class and club presidents and ASB officers. The new policy of participation by all classes in school plays, the landscaping of the quad, and requirements for the mascot were among the many measures of lasting importance discussed in student govern- X ment. Some of the projects which were undertaken were a landscaping con- test. amendments to the ASB by-laws, and a clean campus carnpaign. Dignified by his intellectual partici- pation and enthusiasm for his school, the student council member was an important man on tampus this year. Seniors strove to make the last year the best, with activities such as a Senior Slouch Day, bermuda days, and a memorable banquet in the Patio on Career Day. The exquisite senior Homecoming float took first prize with Queen Connie Phau as its crowning touch. Senior candidates for Mr. and Miss Santa Claus reigned over the Christmas formal. Seniors took pride in their class colors of beige and brown, buying senior sweaters in those colors and displaying the senior flag at assemblies and games. The last weeks of high school reached their peak with Ditch Day, the Senior Ball, and Graduation. Perform- ances at regional and national Madrigal conventions highlighted the years schedule. The Long Beach Madrigal festival was another of their concerts. I28 A CAPPELLA CHOIR The choir worked this year with some of the most difficult music exer done on the high school level. The Future Business Leaders was one of the most active clubs on campus this year. At Thanksgiving the FBLA make up baskets of food for the needy. Christmas dinner and an exchange of gifts were the activities for December. Representatives from OHS attended the Southern Section Conference in February. Field trips included the Los Angeles Museum, Disney- land, and an airplane trip from Oxnard to Los Angeles. A candle-light installation of officers topped the year.
