tg e e Btty 0 pe nt S e Assoclated Student Bod ln spate of wartlme restrlctlons the Assocuated Student Body completed a hnghly suc cessful year under the leadershlp of Blaane Fntzgerald presudent Betty Stoll actrng presudent Barbara Boers secretary Chuck McClaun treasurer and Glen Bell sergeant at arms Led by yell leaders Irma Dean Catlun Archue Connelly and Jean Arosteguy the ASB turned out un mass to support the football and basketball games both un Oxnard and on other fnelds or courts The programs on the ASB calendar Included everythnng from Bach to boogne woogue llterally Fulllng nn the gap between the two extremes a wude varrety of enter talnment was presented On September 22 Shirley Dlnsdale seventeen year old ventral oqurst and her dummy Judy Splunters brought down the house rn a wrld burst of applause for their act whlch later appeared on the radio wlth the Nelson Eddy show Mlss Dlnsdale performed at OUHS under the sponsorshup of the Tru Y Mrs Russell Bennntt local con cert plannst presented a program of classlcal piano selectlons Sem: classucal muslc was supplned by opera barntone Luther Hoobyar who ns an asslstant Red Cross field drrector at Camp Rousseau Mr Hoobyar sang to the student body rn apprecsatnon for :ts contrrbu tuons to the Red Cross A varred musucal program was guven by the band and glee club un der the durectlon of Mr Edmuston Boogie woogle was hot when the Ship s Company band from the Navy base presented a show for the bond rally durlng the Suxth War Loan Druve Other programs nncluded talks by James Walton a durector of the ant: clgarette league of Calrfornla by Saleem Thomas natrve of Syrla who spoke on the advantages of the American way of lute nn contrast to that In hls native country by Dr Valentnne Henley of the College of Osteopathlc Physucnans and Surgeons and by the Reverend Joseph Burkhart who gave an address for Washmgton s Bnrthday At one assembly war news reels obtavned by the Spanish Club were shown The ASB gave impetus to the bond drlve when nt sponsored an essay contest on the subject Why Buy War Bonds Pat Broughton a yunuor won the S5 OO prnze and her essay was prlnted In the BUZZ Three dances were thus year sponsored by the ASB The furst on September 22 had as nts theme Get Ac quannted The second one a Valentmes dance was held on February I7 The trad: tlonal dance cllmax of the annual cotton festlval was held on May l8 wath Sprung as nts t eme . 4 is j ' ' .H--1 E 3 V H I gf, , Q g :guy -, , ' 4 Run Y Jean Aros e uy, y II I aderp e St Il, acting r side 5 Barbara Boer , 5 cretary.
