Superintendent of Schools il' Sheldon E. Guile, A.B., Ed.M. if Some thirty years ago the present high school, Owego Free Academy, was built. Now, a short dis- tance away, a new high school takes shape. To- gether, they are symbolic of your T958 TOM TOM. However, neither the old nor the new has real significance without that human factor of which you, the youth of this area, are representative. ln effect, these buildings help bridge the gap between one generation and the next. This, then, is your task, to take from the old those enduring qualities that will make the new, wherever or whatever it may be, purposeful and useful to yourself and others. Board and StaFf congratulate you on a fine record and wish you well in future years. Sincerely yours, Sheldon E. O.F.A. Principa ir Kenneth A. Vance, The Old and the New We are planning to move into a new high school before another year begins. Students, as well as faculty, are looking forward to this transition. Edu- cationally there will be many changes and im- provements over our present situation. We shall find ourselves in larger and more pleasant sur- roundings with rooms equipped with more modern facilities, an auditorium of which we shall be ex- ceptionally proud, and a gymnasium with sliding doors so it can be used by boys and girls at the same time. These are but a few of the improve- ments and changes. However, let me advise you no matter how great the improvement in building structure is, scholarship will not improve on your part unless you take advantage of the opportu- nities provided. ln moving from the old to the new, let us not stay as we are, but let all of us improve, too. This is an opportunity, don't pass it by. Success is not determined by our surroundings, it is merely a factor.
