McGhee Vice Principal Life is a drama, and each of you has a part to play on this earth's grand stage. While you may have plans to become a star, most of you will probably have to resign yourself to being a supporting player. Nevertheless, whether a star, the understudy, or another supporting player - how well you play the role will depend upon you. It is my hope that you have availed yourself of the myriad learning opportunities present at Overbrook High School and that you are pre- pared for whichever part of the exciting drama that life has in store for you. Perform your part well, and be a beneficiary of all the good that life has to offer you. VICE PRINCIPALS Samuel J. Gotlieb Vice Principal There are three major components for eva- luationg any class that has come through or will come through Overbrook High School. These components are academic achievement, ser- vice to the school and community, and school spirit. l would rate the class of l986 high on the scale of each of the above criteria. The class of I986 has shown a high level of academic excel- lence. In addition, the class of l986 as a whole has participated in school functions and Home S School sponsored events. Finally, one of the strong points of the class of l986 is its school spirit. I believe it equals any class I have had the good fortune of knowing. lt has been my pleasure and will continue to be an honor to work with the class of l986. Barbara Moyes came to the United States from England. Patricia Hansbury, a teacher in the social studies department, went to England. ln the exchange program the teachers actually exchange everything, from classes in the school to homes and cars. Miss Moyes found time in her busy schedule to write some similarities and differences between Overbrook and the Neale Wade school in England: One of the main similarities is the students. They have the same excuses and complaints about workl Life in the classroom is really very similarfwith students being friendly and quite hard-working. The main difference is that in England l would see classes only two or three times a week, certainly not everyday at the same time. Students up to the age of I6 would take IO-ll subjects so their roster would differ each day of the week. I have to get used to working without breaks during the day. At Neale Wade the staff and students have either a coffee break or lunch after two periods. However, since there is more social time dismissal is not until 3:45. There are no shortened schedules for any reason. There are many more holidays but a shortened summer. If you put it altogether it has been quite an education for all concerned. OR C ANGE AC V John Binstead, Student Association Sponsor Class of '86, it's finally happened! The big dayl Before you begin celebrating, here's a few sobering facts. Overbrook has prepared you to dea wit t e r not the world of nice fantasies and platitudes. Now go out there and make us proud. J. T. Binstead Crystal T. Bryant President Congratulations Seniors, Here we stand exiting a small phase and entering into a phase of immense size, the phase called Life , We can no longer be dependent upon mother and father, but must now be dependent upon ourselves. Before we take one step into this phase called Life',', we have to know our capacity to cope and conquer the difficulties of the world to which we will be exposed. Whatever challenge we face, it must first be analyzed and weighed. We then ask ourselves, Am I capable? . If at the time it seems too difficult, instead of quitting, we must put forth our best effort and try. While passing through this phase be sure to maintain the philosophy, I can and always remember that no waters are too wide to swim across. Classmates, I sincerely hope and I do believe that these values will lead each of us into the ultimate phase known as Success , Good luck 'and farewell, Crystal T. Just think of the wonderful memories I would have missed. The class of '86 has been the most cooperative class a sponsor could have asked for. Together we treaded unknown seas - and the result - school spirit, class enthusiasm. involvement. growth, participation and prosperity. Your Junior Class trip and the Junior Prom were such a success that it was only topped by the most enthusiastic Move-up Day ceremony ever. Many of you requested that we skip summer and proceed directly to September - The Ultimate Senior Year. Well, summer could not be postponed, so you waited patiently. The first day of school you reported early and ready. What's the first fund-raiser Miss Coleman? was your constant question. You shared my joy when l married during your senior year, although many of you said, I just can't get used to calling you Mrs. Russell. You shared your personal problems and concerns as l pushed you to go to class, encour- aged you to study and urged you to do your best. To the officers and committees of the Junior and Senior Class of '86 I thank you for a job superbly done. I find it very difficult to say good-bye to you. We've become so close that I know most of you by name. But good-byes must be said, no matter how difficult, and move on we must. For the patience, trust, and respect you have shown me, for all the times you've made me proud, I thank you. God bless each of you. I love you. lllllifa kfilcillmm 5409 ,ig , CLASS PRESIDENT, YOLANDA FOX Congratulations!! The Class of '86 is truly a special onel We as a class have experienced so many new activities and ideas. The night will always be one to remember. The memorable evening began at 8 P.M. sharp at the elegant Parkside East. The sights were extravagant, ladies and their companions exquisitely dressed to perfection from top to toe with the finest of attire. We dined by candlelight and quiet music humming in the background as w'e spoke softly at our tables. As our hungry palates were served, we enjoyed the giving away of door prizes and the annual crowning of the prom King and Queen. After the festivities it was time for an evening of dancing and fun. The evening came to a quiet close at I2:OO and it was time to bid adieu. As we left, we watched the fin- est cars and limosines pull off into the moonlight.
