ULIAEHITA BAPTIST E'-EILLEEBE ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS DFFICE DF' THE PRESIDENT Dear Ouachitonians, Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue might seem more applicable to the weddings which some of you will shortly have than to an educational institution, but I believe that these words could also describe this year at Ouachita. Something old would refer to the spirit of Ouachita which remains un- changed down the corridors of time de spite the fact that the institution may assume a new appearance. Perhaps this intangible thing called spirit which one feels when he steps on the campus remains an unchanging reality because the basic Christian principles on which the school was founded and on which it operates are immutable. Something new could refer to any one of a dozen things, from a state championship girls' basketball team to a revised curriculum to a faculty housing project which is unique in the nation. Four new buildings, a fifth completely ren- ovated, a sixth under construction, and a seventh now on the architect's drawing board have greatly changed and will further alter the- face of the institution. Something borrowed might well be used to describe the money with which a new 35300, OOO dormitory for men is being constructed, but it could also apply to lessons, borrowed from the history of this and other institutions, that the choice of any school is either to go forward or to die. Ouachita has elected to go forward. Something blue might pertain to the marble Tiger as he looked after one of his recent paintings by uninvited and uninhibited nocturnal visitors to our campus, but I prefer to think of it as symbolic of the blue sky of horizons unlimited in Ouachita's future. While our school has had an illustrious past, I am firmly convinced that her greatest days lie ahead as we work toward higher standards of scholastic achievement, better buildings, more adequate educational resources, an expanded curriculum, and a recognized graduate school. The future is bright indeed if those of you who are shortly to become alumni will dedicate the years ahead to doing all within your power to make Ouachita queen of the college world. If you will, then when your sons and daughters are ready for college, there will never be a moment's hesitation as to where they ought to go. Since rely your s , fWf4Q'i7 f!i Ralph A. Phelps, Jr. RAPlfw President
