Tradifion: Far on wind swepf, sandy mound, Far from shouf and noise of crowd, Lies fhe grave of noble savage, Lies fhe fomb of O. U. founder. lvlighfy Tauy Jones, Indian brave, Red man mighfy, friend fo whife man. Friend because of fhe Messiah, Love new found because of Chrisf. And years hence, when fhis is all a misfy, Foggy pasf, fhere will come a fhousand memories lncomplefe, vague, yef real and vifal: Full of colored connofafion. A walk down a counfry lane, A chance greefing wifh an old friend, The sound of a bird shrieking in fhe disfance, Rushing aufomobiles in a greaf cify, The color of a signposf, fhe flame of a sunsef, Dusf, rushing across Kansas: These, and a fhousand ofher images, pressing The magic louffon of memory, causing us fo Recall . . . recall . . . recall . .. We shall spend our lives in a greaf, infense search A search in which we will seek ourselves, And fhe besf fhaf is in us. We will search for Happiness. We will seek if in all fhings- Some will discover if--fhrough faifh. A bell folls fhe knell of a parfing day: lf marks fhe lasf hours of new experience And fhe beginning of an everlasfing guief. This life is a period of preparafion. Wifh pure or unclean minds we mould The subsfance of our efernify. This brief momenf we eifher cherish or despise. Each hour, each drop of sand in fhe glass Sees fhe flower bloom or fade. And We cannof find ourselves alone- There is one who rnusl' go wifh us. We know of Him. He is no mysfery. He is fhe ocean befween fhe Here and There. Wifh Him we find life. Wifhouf Him: ernpfyness. O losf! O found! The shop is closed, fhe candle snuffed- And all is silence! Forever silence! WILLIAM F. HERRICK TAUY JONES HALL. Wifh ifs fradifional dome, Tauy Jones Hall is 'Phe olclesf building on fhe campus. The original sfrucfure, builf wifhouf nails and dedicafecl in IB69, was for many years fhe only college sfrucfure. In I923 if was complefely remodelled and given over fo music, speech, and dramafics. The hisfory of ihis building has come down fhrough fhe years as a symbol of 'the beginning of OHawa Universify and ifs fradifions.
