This year mechanical drawing, metal shop, woodshop, industrial arts and electronics are included in the industrial arts department at Ottawa High School. These courses assist the students in pre¬ paring for jobs after high school. Through experience the students gain valuable knowledge of these fields. The skills offered are necessary to the student who plans to go into this type of work after high school. The field of Home Economics is an expanding area, and is a very important part of a girl ' s preparation for the future. The courses offered at Ottawa are cooking, sewing and home management. Students studying the cooking processes learn about the nutritional value of foods, along with helpful hints on how to prepare food attractively and how t o set a nice looking table. In sewing, the girls learn the fundamentals of the art, then proceed carefully, and with increasing skill, master the technical¬ ities. In time, they are capable of sewing the modern styles for everyday wear. Home Management is a popular course among senior girls. Its aim is to prepare the girl for married life. It makes her familiar with those difficult situations of married life and teaches her how to cope with them. It also helps prepare her emotionally for married life. As cultural training is an important part of a well-balanced education, the Fine Arts Department of OHS has provided the student with the opportunity to study art and vocal or instrumental music. Another exciting year of music was provided through the combined efforts of Mr. B. J. Muus and Mr. Ray Makeever. These outstanding teachers are a credit to Ottawa High and we appreciate their hardwork. Miss Joy Kruger and Miss Rebec¬ ca Aten guide those talented OHS- ers in several different aspects of art. Creativity is the object, and the results come through, in still lifes, landscapes, perspectives, figure drawings, designs and several other crafts.
