This year mechanical drawing, metal shop, woodshop, industrial arts and electronics are included in the industrial arts department at Ottawa High School. These courses assist the students in pre¬ paring for jobs after high school. Through experience the students gain valuable knowledge of these fields. The skills offered are necessary to the student who plans to go into this type of work after high school. The field of Home Economics is an expanding area, and is a very important part of a girl ' s preparation for the future. The courses offered at Ottawa are cooking, sewing and home management. Students studying the cooking processes learn about the nutritional value of foods, along with helpful hints on how to prepare food attractively and how t o set a nice looking table. In sewing, the girls learn the fundamentals of the art, then proceed carefully, and with increasing skill, master the technical¬ ities. In time, they are capable of sewing the modern styles for everyday wear. Home Management is a popular course among senior girls. Its aim is to prepare the girl for married life. It makes her familiar with those difficult situations of married life and teaches her how to cope with them. It also helps prepare her emotionally for married life.
