Wide Choice of Languages Oyjferea' The incoming freshman has quite a decision to make upon scheduling a language into his studies. Should it be 'Guten Tag', 'Salve', 'I-lola', or 'Bonjour' for me? This decision in- volves considerably more than one imagines at first. In our foreign language program, we not only try to understand the language, but we try to understand the people, their country, and their way oflife. The most modern electronic aids are used to provide experience in the conversational form of each language while time-tested methods are freely intermixed with innovation in the study ofsyntax, grammar and writing technique. The influence of the language department spreads throughout the school on holidays and during special seasons as each student observes the special days with a titting form of greeting Joseph Soltis B.A., M.A. St. Procopius College, University of Illinois or a signihcant decoration in classroom and corridor. This entering into the national scene of an adopted country is one more way of draw- ing nearer to another people. Smuggle me across the border and nobody will know me from his great aunt's grandson, may not be an empty boast for the hearty soul who manages to stay with it for the full OHS course. Send me to Rome, my Latin is right up there with the best of them!
