Alumni Bring Honor to Ottauwz On june Jo, 1028, the first graduating class of 1571 left the security of Ottawa Hills High School to make a place for themselves in the outside world. Little by little graduating classes increased until the peak year of 1958 when 258 students were graduated. To date, more than 51.400 students have left the halls of Ottawa Hills. But more important than numbers is the good name these former students have given to our school. We should be proud of the prominent businessmen and women and the fine citizens that Ottawa Hills High School can claim. Abou' 7'jgl7f.' Mr, and Mrs. Rohert O, Blackford with their son -lim, who is a freshman at Ottawa, have made their permanent home in Grand Rapids, Mrs. Blackford. the former Marion Leyda. was a mcmher of the class of '28, in which she participated in dramatics, music, and was a member of the Legend Staff. Acting as president of the Cordelier Cluh tforerunner of the Varsity Clubj and vice-president of the Parthenon tliterature clubj, Mr, Black- ford was an honor student of the class of '29. After graduating. he attended Michigan State College and is now a manufacturers agent. lielou' riglvfr Present principal of Alexander School is jean Seliler who gradu.ited in 1939. An ardent supporter of the Legend Staff. Miss Sehler was also a member of G. A. A. and the French Cluh. She received training for her present position at the University of Michigan. Below Ieflx Music and dramatics played a large part in the school life of Frederick XX'illiam Poel. Graduating in 1929, he was also secretary of the Hi-Y Cluh and a memher of the student council.
