WG. the class of 1937 feel we may ulook forward with pleasure and backward without regretn. As we leave Ottawa High School, we realize that never again shall we return as students in the fall to greet each other and assume the routine of classes and activities. But with us we take many happy memories, lasting friendships, and the assurance of work well done and dreams fulfilled. We are proud of our record. As sophomores we were active in clubs and organizations. Although we assumed no direct leadership we participated and offered support in all worthwhile projects. In our Junior year many of us became officers in various organizations. Some achieved the honor of high rating in music, others became athletic stars--track, a junior party in the The two most outstand- junior play, nGuess annual Junior-Senior of '36. basketball, and football. We held winter and a picnic in the spring. ing features, of course, were our Againn, a riotous comedy, and the Banquet given in honor of the class This year as seniors we have held the most respon- sible positions in the clubs. The presidency of the WCW Club, GZR., Hi-Y, Dramatics Club, Home Economics Club, Latin Club, and others have been ours. Several were prom- inent in the operetta NJoan of the Nancy Leen, while the HRecordW staff has been composed entirely of members of our class. This spring the senior play cast was selected, and the highly entertaining nMrs. Temple's Telegramn was the finished product. On May 7 the Junior class honored us with a delightful banquet, and later while the rest were struggling with finals, we jaunted to Richmond Lake for the usual Senior Picnic. Last but not least, we edited and published the 1937 WRecorderH which we hope brings all of us--junior high students, sophmores, Juniors, and seniors closer together in memories as the years roll by. So with some pleasure and much sadness we realize that time has slipped on and we are leaving O.H.S.g but the words of our alma mater ring in our ears and we Join together in nEver we'll glory in her proud success! A -yr---A-Y - '-ninires -- 'A' ' ' ' ,F ,,ni,h , Z 2 r S 4,51 ' on mn Three major activities were worked out and enjoyed by the Junior class during the school year. The first of these, namely, the Junior party was held before the class was officially organized. It was given shortly after the begin- ning of the second semester as a gesture of honor to the winning com- mittee in each Of the English VII classes. Things were started off with a bang in the auditorium with a very amusing program planned by Marian Hogue. Those taking part included Mary Bryant, Denise Dennis, Loretta Franks, Mary Keen, Beverly Pope, and Lyman Streeter. Various stunts were given by the formerly mentioned committees and their chairmen. A number of exciting games were played in the Senior high gymnasium, under the direction of Howard McClellan and Thelma Graves. However, the center of attraction was one of the chaperone, Mr, J, E, Whitcraft. Finally, a number of Junior girls served delicious refreshments. The roaring success of the event should be attributed to Miss Prunty, The first class meeting was held early in February, and the following officers were elected: Harold Novak, president, Jack Stgge, vice-president, Beverly Pope, secretary, Warren Lowen. 'treas- ll . The Junior play has become one or the high-lights of the school year. The play chosen this year was 'Oh, Professorn, a comedy in. three acts. The characters included: Jake, the Janitor, Bob Trump, Miss Frederica, assistant to the dean, Loretta Franks, Dean Aristotle, Andrew Speer, Michael Pemberton, a rich young bachelor, Howard Mo Clellan, Percival Courtwright, a poor professor, Richard Kirkpatrickg Jimmy Anderson, a young scapegrace, dLyman Streeterg Patricia Pat-- terson, a student, Marian Hogueg Fifi Dubois, a French lady, Mary Keenk and the following other students, Fluff, Jane Reinhartg Belle, Mary Bryant, Jean, Rosa Wheelerg Bertha, Lillian Powellg and Joan, Lowen and John, Holmes acted as stage managers. The net receipts of the play totaled more than 3150. ' The banquet at which the seniors were entertained by the Juniors was given May 7, at the Country Club. Harold Novak, president of the Junior class, acted as toastmaster and the following toasts were glveu by Juniors: 'The Years that the Locusts Have Eatenn-Kathleen lCooley5fWThe Sky's the Limit'-Beverly,Popeeg and WSit-down Strikesw- Jack Stone. The members of the junior class were also very proud of the fact that the-Queen of Ottawa High School,Miss Loraine Peacoch, was elect? ed from their class. ' The juniors of Ottawa High School participated in a large per- centage of the various extra curricular activities, including dra- matics, debate, orchestra, band, mixed chorus, and the other musical organizations. O A SENIO S DIARY September 8 I put on my new hair bow and collected the kids and started to school today. There was the usual hub-bub and excitement pver meeting old friends and the other teachers. There are two new supervisors, Mrs. Wood and Miss Darr, study hall and art, respectively. A new time schedule has been arranged! 8:20--112473 12:54--5:47. Mr. Gowans made the customary chapel oration which was varied from previous years b the addition of a new joke fat least it was a different oneg. September 25 The football season is here with the customary scrimmaging ln snow, mud, and rain, with now and then a touchdown to Break the monotony. October 16 Most of the journalists of 0. H. S. went to Lawrence today, and will be gone get tomorrow. to attend an all state con- ference. We hear some new and clever suggestions from sev- eral famous Journalists. November 2 To dav we all voted. We had ballots just like Dad'a and I guess we all voted the way Dad did. Mr. Hoffman says we should learn to think for ourselves. I wonder if thet's why he's so queer. November 26 The operetta, 'Joan of the Nancy Lee' was given last night and I was really surprised at the talent some of those child ren possess. Hortense Harris made a fiery little lady Jo- anne, and Eldon Olmsted was a simply Dee-vine hero. Today is Thanksgiving and we all ate too much dinner and then went to the football game. Wow! What a night! And what a finish to a week of late pert ies I got everything I wanted for Christmas--almost. Now we have to go back and get ready for exams. Worra!
