Concert Band Completes Excellent Season District music contest was held at Platte College in Columbus this year. The band played Beethoven Bicentennial Suite arranged by Philip Gordon and Overture For Winds by Charles Carter. Although they received a 2 or excellent rating the bandsmen felt that they had learned a great deal from the rehearsal of the songs. Superior or 1 ratings in the instrumental division were awarded to soloists Carita Peterson and Cindy Nahr-stedt; the flute duet--Debbie Larson and Cindy Nahr-stedt, the clarinet choir, the woodwind quartet, and the stage band. The band will surely miss the 30 departing seniors but there is an enthusiastic group of 9 freshmen joining the ranks. SCORPIO Mike Stromberg, Mike Ienn, Mr. Cadwallader, Sue Lieberman, Sue Eikenhorst, Julie Hiemer, Cindy Nahr-stedt, Linda Johnson, Terry Anderson, Margie Simonsen, Dana Boden, Karen Johnson, Kurt Anderson. The Beat Goes On On the contemporary side of the O. H. S. music program come Scorpio, Folksingers, and the Stage Band. Scorpio, a group formed last fall, consists of twelve seniors with Mr. Cadwallader as writer, arranger, and accompanist. The members have shown their versatility by doing a variety of numbers, some with soloists and others with instrumental accompaniment. Their hard work and long hours of practice resulted in a television appearance in March, which was the highlight of their year. Folksingers, formed last year, is a group of eleven juniors, sophomore drummer Alan Sipes, and freshman accompanist Carita Peterson. They too have worked hard and show much promising talent. Several performances by these two groups were made at civic and church organizations. The Stage Band, after practicing all summer, gained a few new members in the fall from the freshman ranks. Attending a clinic at Nebraska Wesleyan University in January proved to be beneficial and the Stage Band progressed rapidly. A concert consisting of musical numbers entirely from these three groups was given in February and everyone involved felt it was a great success.
