CLASS H ISTO RY With graduation approaching, we the seniors of 1960 can look back with pride to the six years we have spent at Orono. As seventh and eighth graders we succeeded both academically and socially. In our freshman year we became more unified. Leadership was in progress with President Phil Hamilton and Secretary-Treasurer Barb Nelson. We approached our sophomore year with great zeal. Don James, Bruce McKeever, Judy Ferguson, Nancy Poisson and Sue Harvey were elected as our class officers. Our reigning royalty for the year were Cheryl Ferch as Homecoming attendant and Sue Harvey and Gary McCullum as the Heart Hop Jack and Jill. The class play January Thaw, the annual Homecoming award, and the Junior-Sen- ior Prom were all top events in our junior year. Don James and Cheryl Ferch were crowned Snow King and Queen. Jeanne Fortin and Dick Johnson were the Heart Hop Jack and Jill. Nancy Poisson was our Homecoming attendant. The class officers were: Don James president; Phil Hamilton, vice-president; Cheryl Ferch, secretary-treasurer. We en- terecl into our senior year with mixed emotions. Raring to move ahead but wanting to hold onto the life spent at Orono. The first night Home- coming was a big success with the victory over Chaska and with the second time that we were presented with the Homecoming display award. Sue Harvey reigned as Homecoming Queen, with Sue Kreb and Nancy Poisson as her princesses. We achieved a greater realm of success when we presented our class play A Midsummer Nights Dream. This type of play had never before been attempted at Orono. Of course, the most important event of all was Graduation on June 8, 1960. With deepest sincerity we can say that Orono has become a great part of our life. A part we will not easily forget. 52 BETTY ANN AHLSTROM LEWIS LEROY ANDERSON HOLLY FAYE ARNESON II I Betsy Louue Holly BETTY AHLSTROM - Ambition: get married and live happily ever after. Eighth grade officers were Bonita Quammen, Pres., Bill Levering, Vice Pres., and Kathy Miller, Sec.-Treas. During our Freshman year we had no class officers, but homeroom officers. Barb Addison represented us as a B squad cheerleader, and again in our Sophomore year on the A squad. Kathy Wasgah was our Home- coming attendant. Paul Clover and Kathy Wasgaft were our class of- ficers during 9th and 10th grades. Sharon Rosch was our homecoming attendant. Shirley Kyllo and Ray Norum were co-chairmen of the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Alvin Landberg presided over the class and our vice president was Waldemor Schmidt. In eighth grade we were honored to have two B team cheerleaders, Gwen Newstrom and Kathy James. Jim Warner was elected vice president of the student council. Ninth grade, John Lawton was elected President of the student council and again we had two members of the B squad cheerleaders, Nancy Anderson and Gwen Newstrom. This is our first year in Senior High and we have two A squad cheerleaders, Laurie Ferch and Nancy An- derson. Gwen Newstrom again represents us on the B squad. Left to right: G. Pogue, N. In eighth grade, we were really proud to have our class represented by a B squad cheerleader, Barb Dunn. The homeroom officers were Mary Levering, Paul Johnson, and Curtis Tesch, Presidents, and Barb Netz, Kathy Wright, and Susan McWiIIiams, Vice-Presidents. There also were more teachers, each teaching a different subiect. It took us a week or so to learn more about our school and where the locations of the class rooms were. As the year passed, we had many opportunities to join in organization and activities within our school. ROW 1, L. to R.: J. Bauer, G. Kcntor, L. Jenson, S. Lemmermon, J. Wolsfeld, W. Krotzer, J. We belong to that huge crop of US. kids who were born in 1947, and are now beginning their high school years. In fourth grade, we were the first to have classes in the new Orono Elementary. 1958, Centennial Year, our part in the big pro- gram was to show people the square dances of early Minnesota. 1959 was Science Year in the U.$., with no excep- tion to our sixth grade class. Many kids made quite an eitort to win the Science Award. Later in the year, we had a Science Fair in which Science ex- hibits were displayed. . You'll find quantity, and a bit of quality in our seventh grade class.
