Thursday morning saw all students finish the last English exam and a clean up of the campus. Just before lunch, the chapel committee held a different and interesting chapel service in the Horsecollar Theatre which included readings, slides, and music. An introduction of the faculty by Buck Hart and students officers by Art McCann was followed by parent-teacher conferences in the Phillips Library. Thursday evening began with a traditional turkey- dinner and was concluded by a student presentation in the Horsecollar Theatre. Under the direction of Fluth Fountain, the sextet and chorus performed a variety of songs. Lee Thompson directed the drama personnel in two short and entertaining productions. Outstanding humor was performed by Janey Kipnis, Mike Brown, and Cheryl Lubin. On Friday, the annual Thanksgiving Flodeo was held in spite of the rain. Hard work by members of the O.Ft.A. and director Harley Cox helped make the rodeo a great success. Special awards went to Queen Teal Manley, first attendant Diane Fritz, second attendant Samantha Headstream, All-Around Cowgirl Samantha Headstream, and All-Around Cowboy Peter Vlassis. Many thanks to all the participants and supporters of the rodeo. Special thanks to Mrs. Vlassis for the outstanding dedication of the new O.R.A. Rodeo Arena. The team started out strong, but lost the services of three of the top seven runners for the last half of the season, and thus slipped in competition. With five of the top six runners returning for next year, good things are expected. Strong perfor- mances were turned in by Sean Flynn, Tracy Harris, Will Shepard, Bill Clark, Peter Corn, and Maynard Nutumya. Bill and Maynard picked up special awards, Bill being the most dedicated runner of the team, and Maynard being the most valuable member of the team. The highlight of the season was the victory over Buckeye and Peoria, two large schools from Phoenix. Letter winners for the team were Maynard Nutumya, Bill Clark, Peter Corn, Tracy Harris, Sean Flynn, Will Shepard, Bill Ames, and Chris Lowe. Other winners for the team were Mike Konheim, Bob Baker, Coll Nicolson, Matt Hawkins, and Peter Esser. Terri Beeson, the lone female on the team, performed well and finished first in several meets. gl '. . .af f . 7 I 'LZJ -ffnyfnto' 'X F . E., 5 . R ...h ,I 1' jd. C7 ' .WNY-Lf W W 7, ,Ts . With the toughest schedule in the history of the school the Big Red machine came within six points of an undefeated season. Only a fumble inside the ten yard line stopped a possible upset of Class AA Lake Havasu. The season s eight victories included five Class B West teams a league which Orme will enter next year As a member of the B West public school league the Warriors will be eligible for Class B state rankings and all state selections This year s team was led by the blocking of Captains Mike Erlin and Rich Woodward and the running of Captain Ric Holway. The season was a total team effort on both defense and offense with many star players. The Warriors were honored by the PAC-10 Conference when Mike Erlin received a full scholarship to the University of Oregon Just as this year s team was helped by six starters from last year s Junior Varsity next year s team will receive support from a Junior Varsity of 33 players. A GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The 1981 Warrior Volleyball team presented a balance of youth and experience. The starting six consisted of three seniors, two juniors, and a sophomore. This team also showed more depth than any in recent history. This allowed the Warriors to present a much more complex offensive and defensive system allowing some players to specialize. With so much talent, it seemed inevitable that the Warriors would achieve more than their predecessors - and achieve they did. The Warriors won the A.l.A.A. league championship with a 7-1 record and defeated two public schools in the same season. Overall the Warriors compiled a 10-3 regular season record. The team lived up to all expectations and hopes. Coach Rowe summarized this team by saying: This team played with the poise and maturity seldom seen in high school athletics. They are winners. Season highlights included a first ever win against basketball power Camp Verde, a first ever win at East Fork and participation in the newly established State Championship for private schools. No one single individual dominated this year, as evidenced by the fact that four warriors, Rob Montgomery, Alan Benjamin, Chris Christiansen and Allen Miller all averaged between 12 and 18 points for the season. Benjamin and Christiansen dominated the backboards, while Christiansen, Miller and Stef Dicks dominated play on defense, Stef, along with Mark Hartnett ran the offense, and were quite instrumental in setting up the top four scorers. Craig Barrick, Mike Muster, Sam Noman and Jon Moore were all valuable off the bench. Proud of forming a winning team is first year Coach Howard Brownstein: We won because team members were disciplined, worked extremely hard, and always emphasized team play . With five wins over public schools this year Coach Brownstein feels that the team can now compete with any school of comparable size. 'F' .91 l! S .,..,. G . PQ- j , , ' T' - . '. 4.4, f .. Second Row: Coach Bell, T. Spiva, B. Baker, N. Foley, J. Kessler, J. West, B. Tinsley. The 1981-1982 Warrior Wrestling team was marked by drastic contrasts. On one end of the spectrum was the experience of Senior Captain Ric Holway and Freshman Tim Jasinski and at the other a team of 1st year wrestlers. Coach Bell and Coach Rowe both expressed satisfaction over the performance of the 2 experienced wrestlers. The only way to describe Ric Holway in a wrestling match is controlled fury stated Coach Rowe after Holway's win in the Joseph City tournament. Coach Bell speaking of the first year wrestlers said Each of these young men worked hard all season to become competitive wrestlers. Without exception, they achieved their goal. The Warriors look forward to a strong group of returning wrestlers for the 82-83 season. ati ,K Wi'--..., A 1 1 HORSEIVIANSHIP AND O.R.A. L'-..:3:..s 2 'rid tv , . - 'aw--..... L.' . I have learned so much in so many ways, but no one can put a price on what I have learned at Orme. The people and friends that l have come to know is why this place seems like my home.
