Cross Countr The cross country team hit hard by graduation and injuries, nonetheless improved dramatically over the course of the season. Season highlights included an early-season victory over Superior High School, strong races at home against Scottsdale Christian and Southwest Indian, and participa- tion in the giant 18,000 peoplej Phoenix 10 kilometer run. Leading the pack all season was sophomore Norris Coit. Nor- ris's hard work earned him the Coach's Award. Seniors Allan Hilton, Dale Parker and Shinichi Manaka performed well all season, their graduation will leave a large vacuum in the starting lineup. Second year runner Bill Ames improved steadily all year and will be a leader as a senior. The returning juniors, plus younger runners like sophomore Coll Nichol- son and Tim Rowe, an eighth grader with enormous potential, will form the nucleus of next year's squad. Junior Terri Beeson led the girls team all season, and won the Coach's Award. Cross country, a sport which requires internal motivation and hard work with few accolades, shows promise for continued strength in the years ahead. - x : 43 'tail 'Q I' K.: ,K A v l if if ff i. After four independent league wins and two close losses to Mayer, Orme reached its first goal. In, what Coach Rowe described asg some of the finest high school volleyball I've seen, . Orme defeated Camp Verde in three games. Having reached their first goal, the Warriors prepared for the state volleyball tournament, the second item on their list. Orme lost a hard-fought match to Judson which saw the Warriors fight back repeatedly on to fall two points short. The Warriors showed the pride that had been built up during the season and rallied to finish 3rd in the tournament. Coach Rowe summed up the season by sayingg Our athletes were stronger and better prepared physically than anyone we faced. They earned every victory through their willingness to work together and sacrifice for each other. They were a team in every sense of the word.
