She has contributed to its growth In a multitude of ways, first as school nurse, secondly as teacher In the lower school, and then as school librarian, a position created as she assumed the task of developing the Orme School library. This in recent years she has accomplished in an admirable fashion, and this year, as full librarian, Marge has nearly doubled resources and has carried out a much more thorough program in teaching students the use of the library. Of equal or greater importance than these concrete contributions, has been Marge's deep and sincere interest in the students themselves, her many hours devoted to counselling and in having students in her home for a snack and a touch of homelife. The Sextet, a group of girls under Marge's direction, has given the school some beautiful moments as it sang in the chapel, at assembly, around the campfire, and at commencement excercises. Marge leaves us at the close of this school year. Her de- parture will be a time of regret; but as we dedicate this yearbook to her, ve look forward to seeing her frequently in the future, an enduring member of the Ranch Family. Doles WEBB CONVENTION The third annual Religious Conference of Independent Schools was held at the Webb School in Claremont, California, on March 4. Alba DeZan, Marianna Osborne, Steve Mick, and Fred Stimpson, accompanied by Dr. Amy and Stan, represented Orme. Most of the talks and discussion groups were concerned with the general topic of faith and the group returned to school after their two-day pro- gram feeling that they had profited greatly from a very inspiring conference. As has been customary for years, the majority of the student body appeared in costume to add to the festivities. The costumes included the many individuals in appropriate garb, with the add- ition of such rather novel additions as prisoners carrying ball and chains, and some shepherds driving sheep before them. A com- mittee awarded prizes for the most beautiful, the most original, and the most humorous entries. Just before the party was over, the hugh pinata, made by Aunt Minna, was wildly attacked by a number of the younger students, who swung futiley at it with all their might. When at last one of the bigger boys succeeded in hitting it and releasing the contents, a commotion of both small and large took place as the crowd lunged forward to try to corral a supply of the tasty pop corn balls. Alnt She Sweet? ' Vvv DRNDRER TRIP During October the entire School took their annual trek to the old Dandrea Ranch in the Bradshaw Mountains. There we played cap- ture the flag, volley ball, football, and entered into the various camping activities. After our pow-wow around the campfire, we all slept under the bright stars and full moon. After an enjoyable weekend we returned to the sign of the Quarter Circle V Bar, tired and dirty, but happy. Mass Confusion CHRISTMAS High spirits, gay faces, and mistletoe were symbolic of Christmas at Orme Ranch during the week preceding vacation. The kitchen staff ably supervised by Jack and Lou surpassed itself in preparing the traditional Christmas dinner, with the beautifully decorated tables piled high with all kinds of delicious food. After the meal was over, eager faces turned toward the door as Santa entered to carry out the exchange of gifts and to express his wish that we all have a fine vacation. We next went up to the Chapel where a candle light service was conducted by Dr. Parker. This new addition to our activities helped to bring the true feeling of Christmas to each and everyone, and the parade down from the Chapel with each student carrying a lighted candle was most impressive. O.R.R.R. RODEO The Thanksgiving and Easter Rodeos were held on November 27th and April 14th. As usual, the sight of the whole school on horses coming over the brow of the hill to enter the arena was a colorful spectacle. This year on both occasions, traditionally, the serpentine was executed with a great degree of precision. Some of the events were the baton relay, bull riding, roping, and the skilled performance of the girls' drill team. Too, the antics of the clowns contributed much to the atmosphere. After the rodeos the parents were invited to Charlie's home, where they had an opportunity to meet the faculty, then to a most delicious buffet dinner served in the dining room. Over He Goes tin • ERSTER RODEO The Royal Court Do You Love Me? The Sheriff of Yavapai County Get that Calf JI Reaching for the Moon INTRRMURBL The Jumpl The annual Intramural basketball tournament attracted a large turnout this year. All the teams fought well to try to capture the coveted privilege of having their class year inscribed on the trophy, and all the classes joined in enthusiastically supporting their teams. The freshmen and the seniors battled it out to the end with the seniors finally winning the school championship, although they did bow to a game with the faculty. This yearly attraction commands the largest audience of the tournament, and this year the elders continued to show superiority over their stripling rivals, to make the third successive win for the faculty. Get the Rebound 1 So Graceful HELP I 1 To the Seniors CRRRVRN TRIP Leaving the ranch shortly after ten o'clock on Saturday, April 19th, the caravan, consisting of five large trucks and two station wagons, set out on its annual pilgrimage Our itinerary included visits to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, San Xavier Mission, Tombstone, Bisbee, and the Coolidge Dam. Anyone Missing? After the five-day excursion we returned to the ranch, tired but happy. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best caravans ever, and that we were blessed by wonderful weather. yvjCi. Get em Clean! Soft Pillow Waiting for Something?
