DEDICATION Dick Jessup came to the ranch in 1935 as a result of an asthmatic condition aggravated by the climate of his Long Island home. During the seven years he spent here at school, he developed a deep feeling for this western country and a strong, close friendship with the Orme family. When he left the Ranch School in 19i|2, to continue his schooling. University training at Princeton and Pratt Institute, he left part of his heart at the Quarter Circle V Bar Ranch. Having received his Architectural degree, he re- turned several years later and for three summers assisted with the construction of school buildings under the di- rection of John Carl Warnecke of San Francisco. Last year at the time of Mort's tragic death, Dick was in the process of pulling up roots in New York to move to San Francisco as an assistant to Mr. Warnecke. A long distance telephone call from Uncle Chick brought him immediately out to the ranch where he brought con- solation and friendship to the family as well as a com- petent mind and willing hands to build the proposed Morton Vrang Orme Memorial Chapel. No one but Dick could have built a chapel so expressive of the man to whom it is dedicated and of the land in which he lived. In a short time, Dick renewed old friendships and made many more. He became a familiar and well-liked mem- ber of the community. As the library grew to completion and the chapel took definite form, so did the friendship between Dick and Lyn. The night that Charlie announced their engagement was one of the happiest occasions of the year. To this man whose presence and help here at the ranch has meant so much, we sincerely dedicate this book.
