Lower Grade Activities First and Second Grades The first and second grade Prince and Princess candidates for the 1950 carnival were Mary Moran and Donnie Hotter, The flower girls were Colleen O'Hara and Judy Meehan. The crown bearers were Jim Coburn, Dennis Briggle, David Strom and Bruce Gorham. The boys and girls all brought cookies to put in a big box of cookies on which numbers were sold. Mrs. Andy Lee won the box of cookies. Janice Hines joined the second grade at Christmas time. An unusual thing about the first grade is that all but one of the first names begin with J. or D. Third and Fourth Grades The third and fourth grades began their school year with twenty-one pupils. There were fourteen in the fourth grade and seven in the third grade. In October, the carnival was held. Eddie Joe Minnaert and Jerrilyn Johnson were candidates for Prince and Princess. Jerry McAllister and Eddie Joe Minnaert represented the room in the boxing matches. All the pupils took part in the Christmas tableau which was entitled, The Holy Child,” Oriann Anderson was the announcer. The boys of the room were choir boys, wearing choir robes and carrying gifts to the Christ Child. Cathryn Kintigh, Jerrilyn Johnson, and Dianne Bargmann sang, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Cathryn Kintigh of the third grade moved to Cherokee, Iowa on January 12th, and Leonard Fulwider of the fourth grade moved to Montrose, South Dakota on February 23rd. Both children were honored with farewell parties. The pupils held an art exhibit in their room on April 12th. Many new library books were purchased for the room during the year.
