fall and then they were in... They came from many parts of the United States, interested, hopeful and apprehensive. They put on their most attractiveoutfits, pasted on their brightest smiles and struggled through the Greek alphabet. “Bidding,” “bluecarding,” “hash,” “legacy”, a whole new vocabulary for the rushee. And all those new faces and names that they tried so hard to remember. The Greeks, too, were interested, hopeful and apprehensive. A new coat of paint, a bright smile—the good impression was all important. Some had the time of their lives. Others? Well, they saw the houses. To some it meant laughter, to others, tears, and to a few disillusionment. But for 390 Coeds rush meant many new Sisters and a new and different way of life. 20

it’s friday variety, dammit ” Comedy, folk singing, and dancing are the usual features of that peculiar OSU tradition known as Friday Variety. The program, presented spasmodically throughout the term, provides an outlet for student talent. Of those students attending some are enthusiastic, some interested and others bored. Emceeing the first Friday Variety of the term was Rad Dewey, Barometer editor, and his helper, a 20 pound mongrel named “Dammit.” Mr. Dewey’s rank comments and stale humor resulted in the presentation of a roll of toilet pajjer from members of the audience “to help him clean up his show.” If the quality of this show becomes the norm, students might well comment: “It’s Friday Variety, Dammit.” Dewey and “Dammit”
