The Beavers split their 16 nonconference games but had more difficulty in conference play, losing 11 of 18 games. A spring trip through Arizona started the season. Playing perennially tough Arizona and Arizona State, the Beavers dropped six of their first seven games. Back home, OSU settled down and finished their non-conference schedule with a flourish, winning seven of nine games. Dick Williams was the leading pitcher during this part of the season hurling four games, winning two and posting an impressive 1.78 ERA. Jim Jarvis, Jim Skoog, and Bill Bonser provided the firepower. Jarvis and Skoog both posted .400 or better batting averages. Sophomore Bonser led the team in RBI’s with 13 while whacking the ball at a .333 clip. t Game Scores OSU 8 Arizona 6 OSU 1 Arizona 9 OSU 6 Arizona 7 OSU 3 Arizona State 10 OSU 3 Arizona State 9 OSU 4 Arizona State 9 OSU o Arizona State 2 OSU 9 Linfield 1 OSU 5 Linficld 2 OSU 4 Linfield 3 OSU 8 Willamette 1 OSU 2 I ewis Clark 3 OSU 9 Portland 4 OSU 4 Pacific 14 OSU 3 Portland State 2 OSU 7 Portland 3 Sophomore Hill Bonser (aboiv) led the team in hitting during ND play with a sparkling .367 average.
