March: Marcia Anderson. 1961-62 Barometer headlines read... ▼ Voluntary ROTC, students over 21 living off campus and 11 p.m. closing hours for upper-classwomen all became realities during 1961-62. Campus crazes started with the Slop and then came the snow. The window business hit a peak during the time of fast-flying snowballs; however, the snow was soon gone and students returned to their new dance sensation, the Twist. In the meantime, final preparations were underway for the 1962 edition of the Beaver. Corvallis photographer Frank Hise, a veteran of 25 Beavers. again found himself busy with last-minute portraits for the senior section.

“Primarily Pops describes Dads Weekend ▼ Dads with canes in hand and sons or daughters behind the wheels of the big family cars indicated that it was definitely “Primarily Pops” for the weekend. Classes, displays, sports events, firesides and serenades were held to give the dads an inside picture of college life at OSU. After two days of mad rush and fun most dads went home wondering “How do the kids take it?” and leaving offspring behind thankful that this event happens only once a year. Otherwise, they couldn't (take it, that is). 15 Orange-clad pepsters and pops watch the Beavers win.

Suzanne Scotland reigns at the Military Ball. Military men present Saber and Song” ▼ Dress uniforms and rustling evening gowns whirled across the dance floor during Saber and Song,” the annual Military Ball. Sponsored by Scabbard and Blade military honorary, the popular winter event honored the men of the Army. Navy and Air Force ROTC units and their dates. From a court of lovely candidates, those attending the ball saw Suzanne Scotland receive the cap of royalty, making her Little Colonel of 1962. Dancers have a ball at the Ball. Members of the Little Colonel court are presented.
