6 0K0 and 0K 0557 R14 S' The Senior Orchestra is composed of strings which meet the first period of the day. Prior to all performances the select band members join the strings to make the Symphony Orchestra. This year the Orchestra performed with the Senior Chorus at the Christ- mas Concert. Two soloists played with the Orchestra, Douglas Vincent, concert master, presented the Mozart Violin Concerto in G and Marcia Cameron played the Celeste solo in the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. A signal honor was extended the Orchestra as they were invited to be the guest Orchestra to perform at the Portland High School Orchestra Festival which was held at the Lincoln High School gym on April 1. The orchestra held its spring concert on May 6, which included all the Grade and Junior Orchestras. Lura Lanz and Douglas Vincent were selected to play at the Northwest Music Educators Conference All Northwest Orchestra which was held in Eugene April 13-16. On May 7, Oregon City acted as host to the Northern District Music Con- test which was quite successful due to the fine cooperatiin of musicians. Soloists playing at the contest were: Lura Lanz, Margaret Pletz, Sandra Stonecypher, Douglas Vincent, Dee Staats, Darla Lettenmaier, Victor Meindl and Cora Lynn Elmer. To end the school year the orchestra participated in the Baccalaureate and Graduation exercises. This year the A Cappella Chorus provided music for student body assembly programs, for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Combined with the Junior and Senior Orchestras, the chorus gave a Christ- mas program, comprised of orchestral members and a choral cantata entitled The Song of Christmas. Throughout the year small groups from chorus performed at various civic clubs. In May the chorus gave a concert with 6'Spring,' as the main theme. The various choral numbers were dramatized by members of the chorus. This year the music groups of Oregon City were hosts for the District Con- test including all schools in the Northwest part of the state.
