. INTO THE NIGHT Orange Glen takes the town s the sun goes down in Escondido, the streets came alive with OG students out for fun and excitement. Valley Parkway becomes main street for places to go to find that fun and excitement. For those who choose not to go to the infamous After Dark, Qwik corner is usually the first hot spot to find out the goings-on in town. The place is a party hotline! When no parties seem to be jumpin', several groups of kids usually decide to party at the hills or sky or - for anyone whose car can make the rough trip - the views. From the upper views, you can look straight down Valley Parkway and from flat rock, you can see the entire city and parts of surrounding towns. As our town expands, so does the variety of places to go. The traditional hangouts tRound Table, The Vineyard, Burger King, etc.J now have new competition from newer businesses ttampost, The Carousel and UA 8, and Fenton'sJ. Night Life in Escondido has picked up alot in the last couple of years, and when we want to go out, we can do it in style! I -0 - iwwu., 1 . n ' . o ' g' . V . , . 'g -ml. WHY I WEAR WHAT I WEAR Dressing Up to School. . . in todaysfashion at Qrange Glen Fashion trends during 1985 and 1986 showed the person- alities and attitudes of those who wore them. Individual- ity became the key word in dress styles, and the goal: to be unique. Fashion is an important outlet in expressing one's moods and feeling in everything from politics to musical tastes. Most people dress to fit their own inter- ests, and that makes the categories into which people are placed. locks, mods, surfers, punks, trendies, breakers, bops, newros, preps, rockers, and any other word that has ever been used to describe or label someone's taste in clothing or attitude have their examples at Orange Glen. The definitions of these categories change in their interpretations as much as people change their clothes. Some more noticeable groups are the mods, the surf- ers, the iocks, and of course the ever-changing trendies. Mods are the more individuality-minded of the four. They wear a lot of black, and they also wear clothes that reflect the 60's in style. The most important thing is not what they wear, but the fact that they dress the way they choose to. They don't let magazines or others people ,T .I .L V f ,--y V . Hi 1 i I v Q A I WW Two surfers and a surfer chick model their everlasting Swells up! Trendies are the total opposite. Impressions are every- thing, so they read all the fashion magazines, buying everything they see and not stopping to think if it will be fashionable two weeks later. They often confuse fad with fashion, which is okay if they have the money to buy a new wardrobe twice a month. The latest styles for this very large group seems to be pastel flowers on every- thing, shiny silk, and knit stirrup pants. Paisley patterns from the 60's have been modified for the 80's. Big shirts and tight pants adorned with all kinds of jewelry, espe- cially rhinestone and pearl brooches can be seen all over the place. Male trendies are the same. They roll up their pants and let their shirttails hang out of their sweaters. locks are entirely unique to the human race, They shave their heads every football season, and their entire wardrobes consist of Levi's 501 blues, sports jerseys, and white leather tennis shoes. They carry around Play- mate coolers and are very loud. Another really large group at Orange Glen are the surfers, which is not unusual, since the beach is only 30 miles away. The clothes they wear reflect the casual lifestyle which they live. Baggy cotton shorts and pants, T-shirts and sweatshirts bearing surfboard logos, and Flojo sandals or Vans shoes are the basics for their wardrobes. There are many more styles of groups of people that call themselves whatever they want, some not wanting to be labeled, because everyone is different everywhere. The most important rule of fashion in the 80's is dressing to please one person: yourself. Like most everything else, fashion is an attitude, and whether or not it is well- received by others is up to them. In spite of all the here today-gone tomorrow trends and fads which come through every year, 1985 and 1986 has shown that fashion has come full circle, and the only way to be Hin is to be yourself. -
