i Principal’s Message Nineteen-sixty-three has offered each of us an opportunity to live during a critical period of world history. We have seen the overthrow of na¬ tional governments; the assassination of national leaders; an increase in the world crime rate; threats to the basic foundation of democracy. These tragedies are more than mere historical records of 1963. They clearly indicate that the fu¬ ture of our nation, and indeed of the world, de¬ pends today upon an educated citizenry. The challenges confronting our democratic way of life have been, and in the future will be, successfully met by our educational system. The Escondido community is aware of the vital role that education must play in a dynamic society and have provided you with the means of develop¬ ing your potential to the maximum. I am con¬ fident that each of you will accept the challenges presented by the events of the past year and will wisely use the resources available to further develop the tradition for excellence which is yours.
