X X K J .1-if ' 11 Sophomore Class History Well, at last Labor Day passed, and we entered high schoolg the tirne was fall, 1951, We started back to school with one more boy in our class: Lester Dishner, from Myrtle Point, Along about the 17th of September, we received with welcoming arms another softie Darla Peirce from Parrish Junior High in Salem, Two weeks after school took up, initiation time came, This time, because we were Sophomores, we were looking forward to it After two days of making e Freshies wear gunny sacks and war paint we gave them a party George and Raymond made the basketball team and Eudora and Janis were members of the volleyball team In all our Sophomore year was a lot of fun Freshman Class Hlstory On September 4 1952 the High School of LIL OLE OPHLR opened for its fall term The six students of the entering Freshman class were Merrill Hagen Merle Allen Don Brewer Darrel Dishner Louise Sherrill and Mary Cotton Mary Cotton was the only one of the six who was not an Ophir Grade School graduate Mary had recently transferred from the grade school at Foster Oregon As the weeks rolled by mid term came and so did Devon Godwin In October the Texas girl transferred from McCloud Cal1forn1a December and winter were soon with us when Jo Alice Ketner moved to Ophir from Jefferson Oregon Jo Alice brought the lowly Freshmen up to eight in nurn ber The Frosh initiation which took place during the third week of school attired the girls in old burlap sacks and well smeared lipstick topped off by Atom bomb hair dos The long suffering boys were made to wear female clothes We are proud to say that everyone of the Freshrnan boys played on the high school basketball team and that all of the girls were active members of the volley ball team OVERHEARD IN STUDY HALL RAYMOND Gee Id like to meet her JOHNNY Tough luck son you re too late now TOMMY Janis Ill bet you d marry the biggest fool in the world if he asked you JANIS Just ask me and see 12 th ' ' ' , , O I ,551 l . , . ..,, -.fm 'ir-i f JOHNNY: Today I met a girl who d never been kissed, 1 lil l fir 'r Z 1 , U : n . , , . .
