In the school year '75-'76 we as a council started a trend we hope will continue at OHS- we began closer communication with the student body whom we represent. This, I feel, is a very important aspect of being good leaders. Another aspect of this coun- cil was it's ability to try new things. A good example of this would be our school-wide candy sale. This year's council's schedule consisted of com- mittee meetings on Mondays, with business meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday was our Lead- ership class day, and Friday our Gripe Day. It has been our pleasure to have had the opportunity to serve the Stu- dent Body this year. Sincerely, A.S.B. Although it was new, it had a very successful year. Backpackers was formed by some very in- terested backpackers at our school. Soon their enthusiam spread around campus. The club took it's first expedition up to the very top of Mt. Baldy on a day hike. Backpacker's biggest hike was up to Cucamomga Canyon where they spent the night. These hikes will be remembered as something special by everyone who went. Octagon Club The Octogan Club members will always remember this years' trips to Disneyland, Magic Mountain, and Knott's Berry Farm. In addition, the club will always be proud of having sponsored the Optimist-Octagon Loan Fund which helped many students obtain educational materials. arsity LEFT TO RIGHT: Steve Elias, Doug Brooks, Reggie Avant, Eddie Aguilar, Rick Franco, Bob Frusher, 1 l b Gus Lopez, Marty McClanahan, Ramon Flores, Ruben Perales, Nolan Diggs, Mike Breslin, Dan Brooks, qu Carl Hemby Elijah Bishop Leo Ollvas l BOTTOM ROW: Herman Moraga, Ron Hamilton, Robert Starman. Four years isn't much compared to a life-time. It is if enough, however, to make laughter and tears. The graduating class of '76 faced many changes. I myself 'UQ experienced things I never dreamt would happen to me. As editor of the Jag-Wire, I took on the responsibilities of editorials. Remember the big stink over my editorial on necking? I was accused of hiding from people when that was released. How about my article entitled Beware of Rope. I forgot to proof-read, it should have read 'Beware of Rape. The coaches couldn't figure out why the sports page had a poem, Try Smiling, on it in one edition. CRocky had been ill.J I don't suppose jennifer Dillon was too upset to find out that she alone had made the cover of the newspaper. The reason behind that - jack had the flu and I couldn't find his copy. Thank goodness for pictures! I soon came to the conclusion that a few teachers were disturbed Jack Morgan - News Editor by an editorial on the English department. Did you ever fear that a Rena Hoyd - Editor-in-Chief grade from long ago would be brought down? So you can imagine my thoughts when I wrote about teachers becoming babysitters. My transfer papers were ready to be signed. As a well-known toe stornper, I didn't score too highly with Randy johnson, president of Student Senate. No harm meant, I was attempting to make people aware of the lack of concern with this organization. Did you notice the different staff boxes the jag-Wire had this past year? I kept hoping to find one that really appealed to me, CI'm still lookingj But I did provide the reader with variety. Our first Jag-Wire of the year was released on October 3, 1975. We ran a story on the pep squad activities, remember? Things were confused and someone forgot to take a picture of the new squad. The result - a picture taken from an old yearbook of the seniors as B Cheerleaders. Obviously we had a few problems to overcome this year. Along with these obstacles came improvements. I thank you, the reader, along with the Jag-Wire staff, for making '75-76 a successful year. I sincerely hope that the student body and faculty members will give Ruth Rhodes their concern and understanding next year that I received. Good luck to everyone. Many times the awards are plaques, but sometimes they are cash awards. The Chaffey Trust, Gemco and California Savings 8: Loan give scholarships. A number of students will be presented grants by colleges. The mystery of the awards is that the students many times don't know in what areas they will receive the award. The Onca staff has six seniors working to produce a yearbook for O.H.S. 'These students are Carolyn Burns, Editor in Chief, Cathy Michaud, Faculty Editor, Cheryl Brown, Senior Editor, Paula Berns and joe Franco, Activities Editors, and Rocky Teresa, Sports Editor. Also working for the jag-Wire and Onca staff is senior Mary Veriegas, typist. Next year new students will join both of these staffs, and from their work will receive much recognition. Page 3 Dakin Evaluates Seniors Soon your fourth year of high school will come to an end, opening the way for each of you to take another step toward meeting your goals in life. As l reflect on these four years that have gone by so quickly, I am grateful that so many of you have contributed to making Ontario High School a better school and the community a better place in which to live. Many of the curriculum changes that have been made and will be made in the future are a result of your recommendations, criticisms, and discussion with staff. The Student Council has paved the way for more open communications between the council members, students, and staff. This should create a better atmosphere on campus. The activities programs have made great strides. The future looks good for both girls and boys, athletics, the fledgling intra-mural program has been successful and will be expanded next year, the performing groups such as the band, orchestra, drama, chorus, etc. have done an excellent job, and the publication class, which is dominated by seniors, has made excellent progress in improving the school paper. In view of these things Ihave mentioned and many others that could be mentioned, l feel that the future for the members of the Class of 1976 is certainly bright. l personally wish each of you a most successful future. Alfred E. Dakin Principal Affciin The Goofs You Hove Ser During the process of re-evaluating my thoughts and desperately trying to justify all its unwanted fears, guilts and anxieties, I find a lot of these unresolved questions are left unanswered. The mind explores in depth those things that sometimes seem too difficult to be answered in the present physical state. As we mature our mind is constantly developing and exploring crevices of knowledge that entail our future, our thoughts and those feelings that exist within us. On june 9, 1976, the Senior Class of Ontario High School will hold its commencement services marking the beginning of our future as young men and women. Exploring life in its fullest essence will be left up to us as individuals. Success is yours, attain all those goals that you have set for yourself and more. Give your mind the freedom to be creative and adventurous. There are many paths that will be chosen, as there are many individuals with different desires. But whatever you do, do it to its fullest extent. Because of this, the seniors find their last days of high school busy and expensive, After buying caps and gowns for S6, a senior may buy graduation announcement, which costs a minimum of 5515. Some seniors may stop there, while others will go on to more expensive items such as a senior key, or maybe a panoramic picture of the graduating class for only 53.50. Next there is the senior breakfast for only 51.25, and Grad-Nite tickets for S13. The grand total for all these expenses comes out to 353875. Ilowever, seniors might end up spending more for souvenirs, food, etc. Many other events and assemblies will keep the seniors busy, although they won't all cost extra. The next event for the seniors will be a Baccalaureate Service on june 6. On june 7 will be the senior breakfast, followed immediately by graduation practice. Practices will also be conducted on june 8 and 9. Next come the big ones, Graduation and Grad 'Nite '76.
