Seely, Seely comes the call from all areas in 230. This famous locker room figure is Mrs. Ruth B. Seely. She teaches girls physical education and senior dance. She is as popular with the boys as with the gals, she comes in contact with many of them while teaching them Grand March steps for the Military Ball. She is in charge of the pep squads, rifle team and G.A.A. She attended Omaha uni- versity, Columbia and Southern Cali- fornia. Social science teacher, James T. Sharp, Jr., is also assistant coach of football and track. Hunting, fish- ing and refereeing are some of his out-of-school interests. He also teaches drivers' training and works for the school board in the summer. Mr. Sharp has his bachelor of science degree in education from the Uni- versity of Nebraska and is working on his master's degree at Omaha uni- versity. A new face in the North halls is that of Mrs. Eileen Shearer, art instruc- tor. She is seen running around from one task to another. Mrs. Shearer is a graduate of West Virginia univer- sity with a bachelor of arts degree. Artisans, a club for those interested in art, was fortunate to have her as their sponsor. She also supervises Wagon Wheels, a square dance club, She likes to dance and play golf in spare moments. Blessed relief from the students! As head librarian at North, Mrs. Elma Simpson is in charge of the National Book Week celebration to raise money to buy extra books for North's two libraries. Mrs Simpson's first outside interest is, naturally, reading. She en- joys the theater and music in winter, and in summer she likes to travel and camp out in the mountains. Mrs. Simpson received her bachelor of li- brary science degree from Columbia university. Harvey A. Smith is always ready with a smile and a good joke for passers- by. Since 1925 he has been teaching at North. He now has senior and gen- eral math classes along with the lifa- mous office ninth hours in 113. 'tHarv has received a bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska Wesleyan, and a master of arts from the Uni- versity of Nebraska. Hunting is his favorite sport, and Legion and lodge work are of great enjoyment to him. In addition to teaching mathematics, Mrs. Virginia Southwick finds time to be one of the co-sponsors of Y- Teens. She rates swimming and watching football as two of her fa- vorite pastimes. Mrs. Southwick also likes to sew and do fancy work. She was graduated from Wayne State col- lege where she received her bachelor of arts in education. She has also at- tended the University of South Da- kota. The man often seen with a mirror in his hand bending over a padlock which has been put on backwards is Keith W. Stewart, head of the locker committee. Mr. Stewart teaches world history and he is also counselor of the junior boys. His favorite hobbies are camping in the mountains and rais- ing tropical fish. He has both his bachelor of arts and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska. I 4 , rl U 4 Head of the Spanish department, Mrs. Louise Sutton, teaches beginning and advanced Spanish classes. Sponsoring El Polo del Norte and puttingout the Spanish newspaper take much of her time. She is also the Aurora chair- man and sophomore girls' counselor. Mrs. Sutton has been on North's fac- ulty since 1935. Mrs. Sutton was graduated from the University of Ne- braska with a bachelor of arts de- gree. Leo R. Taylor has been a member of the North social science department for three and one half years. This is his first year of teaching general math. Mr. Taylor is also the sponsor of Hi-Y Cycles and a member of the Visual Education committee. Being a leader in Boy Scouts keeps Mr. Tay- lor very busy. He also enjoys raising roses and woodworking. Mr. Taylor has his bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Nebraska uni- versity.

A new member of North's faculty this year is Larry Nordin. lVlr. Nordin teaches biology and general science. He is also a faculty member of the Homecoming committee. Mr. Nordin is interested in sports, especially football. He is also active in the Douglas County Democratic club. Mr. Nordin has his bachelor of science degree from Nebraska universitv, and he is working on his master's de- gree at Omaha university. Since North opened in 1924, Miss Rose Ostronic has been the Viking school secretary. For this reason, Miss Ostronic probably knows more about North's history, its problems and students than any other staff member. One of Miss Ostronic's chief jobs is answering questions of stu- dents who come into the office dur- ing the school day. Miss Ostronic was graduated from Tech High and worked at Central before coming to North. Her favorite leisure time ac- tivities are reading and music. Her guiding hand is always present for both her journalism and history students. She is Mrs. Ellen Pearey, adviser to both the Norseman and North Star staffs. She has taught for 14 years at North. She studied at Creighton university for a master of arts degree in history. Mrs. Pearey is enthusiastic about her nieces and nephew, her daughter, baking and ice skating. Mrs. Pearey is also in charge of the Homecoming activities. Miss Evadena M. Peterson, sponsor of Junior Classical League, teaches both beginning and advanced Latin. Miss Peterson is also on the Patri- otic committee. She is interested in music and reading. Miss Peterson's hobbies are sewing and cooking. Last summer she attended a Latin work- shop at Wisconsin university. Miss Peterson has her bachelor of science in education from Nebraska univer- sity. Mathematics plays a big part in David K. Petersen's life, because in addition to teaching this subject, he is the school treasurer. Playing cards, chess and photography are his out-of-school interests. Mr. Petersen has his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska and his master of science degree from the University of Omaha. Mr. Petersen has done graduate work at Brown university. With her grandchildren, teaching Eng- lish and traveling, Mrs. Helen Pla- mondon leads an interesting life. Since her graduation from Midland, she has done post graduate work at the University of Chicago and Omaha university. She has her bachelor of arts degree. Mrs. Plamondon is in- terested in drama, and reading is one of her pastimes. She has also studied in Europe and formerly taught French. French club sponsor, Mrs. Rita Ring, teaches both Latin and French. Being on the faculty Christmas tea and Scholarship committees are some of her other school activities. Col- lecting records, knitting and cro- cheting are her hobbies. Mrs. Ring also belongs to Alliance Francaise, She was graduated from Hunter Col- lege in New York where she received her bachelor of arts degree. Running a book room to supply a School the size of North is not an easy job, but Miss Charlotte Root, book room clerk, does this efficiently and single-handed. In addition to sell- ing pencils, paper, erasers, notebooks and folders, Miss Root issues and mends textbooks. Miss Root is very fond of reading in her leisure time. She has her bachelor of arts degree from Oberlin college. Master Sgt. Lawrence Rowan cele- brated his first anniversary as ROTC instructor of juniors and seniors this last January. His duties include su- pervision of almost every ROTC func- tion-the rifle team, crack squad, Military Ball, color guard, Chevron Shuffle and Military police. He spent 18 years in Army active service. Previously he taught at the Univer- sity of California. Am I coming or going?

Rainbow strings, the dance band and the pep band are the special groups which the director of instrumental music, Samuel F. Thomas, sponsors. Mr. Thomas is chairman of the All- city orchestra and the Omaha chair- man of the National String Teacher's association, Fishing is his favorite pastime in summer and ice skating, in winter. Mr. Thomas has his bach- elor and master of arts degrees from Omaha university. Mrs. Constance Tullis' school day be- gins at 7:30 when she teaches a be- fore school biology class. She also teaches general science. Being with her eight year old daughter rates as her favorite hobby. Mrs. Tullis also enjoys hiking and camping. She has her bachelor's degree from Omaha university and her master's degree from Nebraska university. She has also done biology field work at Minnesota university's biological sta- tion. Miss Florence Walker is an instructor in the Homemaking department. Miss Walker is co-sponsor of F.H.A. and a member of the Scholarship and Christmas Tea committees. Outside of school, Miss Walker enjoys reading, music, the theater and traveling. She has her bachelor's degree. Miss Walker has attended Colorado State college and the Universities of Omaha, Nebraska, Creighton, Southern Cali- fornia and Alaska. Jerald J. Weber is another newcomer to North's faculty this year. Mr. Weber teaches American and world history. He is also co-sponsor of Boys' UO Club and Student Council and as- sistant freshman football coach. Golf- ing, fishing and reading are Mr. Web- er's favorite hobbies, He has his bachelor's degree from Colorado uni- versity and is working on his master's degree at the University of Minnesota. NOT PICTURED: Mrs. Phyllis Alexander is a new figure on the Viking office staff this year. As school stenographer, Mrs. Alexander's chief job is taking letters, but she also does other jobs in the office. Mrs. Alexander pre- pared for her present job by attending business school. Outside of school, Mrs. Alexander enjoys playing the organ, reading and sewing, Teaching English to freshmen and sophomores is the job of Miss Zdenka Sedlacek. She is also a member of the Landscaping committee. Garden- ing, playing the piano and reading are Miss Sedlacek's chief interests. She also likes to travel. She has visited Mexico, Hawaii and Canada. Miss Sedlacek has her bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska university and her master's degree from Colum- bia university. ' Art is such a serious subject!
