Being school nurse is the job of Miss Helen Jelinek. Miss Jelinek sends sick students home during the school day, signs excuse notes, conducts the t.b. and audio-visual testing and sponsors F.N.A. Miss Jelinek's new television set adds pleasure to her leisure time. Miss Jelinek has her bachelor of science degree from Omaha university. She has also at- tended the University of Michigan and St. Joseph's School of Nursing. Miss Anna B. Jensen teaches in North's English department. She is also a senior sponsor and a member of the banquet committee. Miss Jen- sen is interested in music, and she plays the organ at her church. She likes to read when she has time. Miss Jensen has her bachelor of arts and master's degrees from Nebraska uni- versity. She has also attended Oma- ha, Creighton, Denver and Colorado universities. A new addition to the faculty, Mrs. Helen Johnsen, spent her first year at North teaching type. Mrs. John- sen is a graduate of Nebraska uni- versity with a bachelor of science degree. She takes great pride in her two sons, one who is in McMillan and the other who is at Northwest- ern university. Even with two boys she finds time to knit and to get together with friends to play bridge. J. R. Johnson is an instructor in the mathematics and science departments. Mr. Johnson also taught in last year's Saturday classes for juniors. He is Radio club sponsor and a member of the Scholarship commit- tee. In his spare time, Mr. Johnson likes to fish, ice skate and swim. He receives his bachelor of arts de- gree from Wayne State college. Mr. Johnson is working on his master's degree in chemistry at Creighton university. Thomas C. Johnson teaches chemistry, biology and driver's training. He is co-sponsor of Fire Patrol and a mem- ber of the Homecoming committee. Duck hunting is one of Mr. Johnson's favorite pastimes. He is also a mem- ber of the Air Force reserves. He has his bachelor of science degree from Kearney State college and has done graduate work at the University of Nebraska. . Senior honors English classes are something new which Miss Anne Keenan, head of the English de- partment, has started this year. Travelling is one of her favorite hob- bies, and she likes to collect china from the countries she visits. Cor- responding with her former students also keeps Miss Keenan busy, but she still finds time for reading and gardening. Miss Keenan has her bachelor's degree from Iowa uni- versity and her master's degree from Columbia. .rg- . wit as ' r r .Ai Mrs. Irene Keenan is now serving her second year as a member of the Eng- lish department staff. She is a grad- uate of Creighton university and holds a bachelor of science and a master of arts degree. As do most English teachers, she is another who loves to read in her spare time. During the summer, she travels through the coun- try to visit relatives. American government teacher, Ray D. Kennedy, has been on North's faculty for six years. His co-fellowship to Wyoming university and Adams State college last summer made it pos- sible for Mr. Kennedy to travel in the West, one of his favorite hobbies. He also likes to work in the Young Republicans and the Masonic Lodge. He has attended Southwest Missouri State college and South Dakota uni- versity. He has his bachelor's and master's degrees. Even to talkers in study halls Mrs. Josephine Mattox is nice and friendly. Mrs. Mattox teaches only English this year. Sometime she adds speech to her agenda. She received her bachelor and master of arts de- grees from the University of Ne- braska. She is a great theater enthusiast and is also interested in church work. She is a sponsor of Student Council. Look who's playing cowboy!

A 1952 graduate of North, Don W. Haffner, is a newcomer in the social science department this year. Mr. Haffner is taking an active part in North's activities by sponsoring Hi-Y and having hall duty before and after school. He is especially in- terested in progressive jazz, but he collects both jazz and classical records. Mr. Haffner has his bachelor of science in education degree from Omaha university. The freshmen and sophomores using North's O30 library are often de- pendent upon the assistance of Mrs. Florence Hallgren, library clerk. Music and cooking are Mrs. Hall- gren's favorite hobbies. Reading and traveling also interest Mrs. Hall- gren. Mrs. Hallgren attended busi- ness college before becoming in- terested in books and their teenage users. Being a swimming and debate en- thusiast are Miss Mary Elizabeth HamiIton's two great interests. She teaches English and debate to North students. Miss Hamilton's time in school is kept occupied by her spon- sorship of National Forensic League, a debate club, and Great Books Dis- cussion club. She received her bache- lor of arts degree from Oberlin col- lege and her master's degree from Ohio university. I never sleep in my study halls! Algebra,--geometry and trigonometry are the subjects which Miss Marion Heiser teaches. Miss Heiser is the sponsor of Fractions. Reading, es- pecially on international affairs, interests her very much. She also likes to ice skate and travel. She has her bachelor's degree from Oma- ha university and her master's de- gree from Northwestern. Last slim- mer she received a General Electric scholarship to study at Stanford uni- versity. Head of the industrial arts depart- ment Elmer E. Helligso has been on North's faculty for 34 years. Mr. Helligso teaches mechanical draw- ing and is one of the co-sponsors of the Fire Patrol. Building kitchen cabinets is Mr. Helligso's favorite pastime in the summer. He has his bachelor of arts degree from Union college and his master of science de- gree from the University cf Michigan. Co-sponsoring Student Council takes up much of type teacher Mrs. Mar- garet Henderson's time. Mrs, Hender- son also assists working girls at the Y.W.C.A. Her favorite hobbies are cooking and sewing. Mrs. Henderson has attended the Universities of Arizona, Columbia and Omaha. She has her bachelor of science in busi- ness administration degree and her master's in guidance ywgrw Teaching freshman and sophomore boys the fundamentals of ROTC is the job of Sgt. Kenneth Hill. Sgt. Hill joined North's faculty in January, 1958. In connection with ROTC, Sgt. Hill is on the Military Ball com- mittee, and he works with the Crack Squad, the Color Guard and the Rifle Team. His favorite hobbies are baseball and working with ham radio. Sgt. Hill is in the Army's 16th Corp. English teacher Frank Hobbs can be found on hall duty during fifth hour. His other school activities include the sponsoring of Safe-Teens and the co-sponsoring of Future Teachers of America. Mr. Hobbs has been a member of the Vike faculty for three years. In his leisure time, Mr. Hobbs is very fond of music. Mr. Hobbs has both his bachelor of arts and master of science degrees from Omaha university. Miss Marlyne Hoffmann, a 1952 grad- uate of North, teaches shorthand, type and office practice. She sponsors Wagon Wheels and Horizons, and co- sponsors Greggites. Outside of school, Miss Hoffmann likes to read, ice skate, shop and llbuy things. She is also studying German. Orville R. Matzke teaches in the in- dustrial arts and mathematics de- partments. Mr. Matzke also coaches freshman football, reserve basket- ball and tennis. He has been an in- structor at North for five years. Outside of school, Mr. Matzke likes to hunt, fish, and watch sports. He was graduated from the University of Nebraska where he received both his bachelor of arts and master of education degrees. Mrs. Ardith Miller, English teacher, is kept busy with many school activi- ties. Mrs Miller is Community Chest chairman, a member of the Courtesy committee and a student in the Prescott study course. Mrs. Miller still finds time to play the piano, knit and read. Mrs. Miller has her bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State college and her master of arts degree from the University of Nebraska. Head of the social science department, Nathan Mohar, also teaches geography for Omaha university at Offutt Air Force Base. This outside teaching is one of his most enjoyable experiences. Hunting, fishing and reading are his favorite hobbies. Mr. Mohar received his bachelor in education degree from Illinois State Normal univer- sity and his master of science degree from the University of Illinois. Yes, you do hit the space bar nicely! Every day before school in the audi- torium, Miss Gertrude Mohr can be found issuing absence checks to the girls. This is Miss Mohr's four- teenth year of teaching at North. She teaches algebra and geometry. Miss Mohr claims that she has many interests in general, but none in particular. Miss Mohr was grad- uated from Drake university. She re- ceived her master's degree from Northwestern university. Miss Marlene Murphy is a newcomer to the office staff this year. Miss Murphy's jobs include being in charge of the hour lists, issuing office calls and answering students' requests. Miss Murphy enjoys traveling and she took a trip of eleven southern states last summer She also en- joys reading and watching sports. Miss Murphy attended Commercial Extension before coming to North. Miss Marian Nelson, English teacher, teaches her students in a friendly atmosphere. As sponsor of Y-Teens she says she has no time for hobbies and that her life is spent with Y- Teens, Y-Teens and Y-Teens. If she had much leisure time she would spend it reading and enjoying music. She is the junior girls' counselor. She received her bachelor of science degree from Nebraska university. William C. iSpeckJ Nelson is an in- structor in North's industrial arts department. Being varsity basketball coach and assistant football coach takes much of his spare time. Mr. Nelson has his own boat, and he spends much of his time boating on the river. He also enjoys fishing and hunting. Mr. Nelson has his bachelor of arts degree from Midland college. Mr. Nelson has taught at North for 15 years. The inspirational Thanksgiving and Christmas programs and the senior play are outstanding because of the work of Miss Margaret Nielsen, speech and dramatics teacher. Miss Nielsen also sponsors Thespians. Church and choir work and cooking are her leisure time activities. Miss Nielsen has her bachelor's degree from Nebraska university and her master of science in speech from Northwestern university. Mrs. Agnes M. Nilsson as O30 li- brarian assists freshmen and sopho- mores in doing their library work and finding the right books. Mrs. Nils- son was a German and English teach- er before becoming a librarian. Of course, reading is her favorite pas- time. ln the summer, Mrs. Nilsson travels to see her children.
