Roger B. Dubler is an instructor of beginning drafting and architectural drafting. Mr. Dubler also sponsors the Chess club. Building during the summer and bowling are his favorite hobbies. Mr. Dubler has been on North's faculty for seven years. He received his bachelor of science de- gree from Nebraska Wesleyan uni- versity. He has also attended the Universities of Creighton, Nebraska, Omaha and Colorado. Co-sponsoring Y-Teens takes most of mathematics teacher Mrs. Pearle Dolinsky's time. Mrs. Dolinsky's hobbies are artcrafts and music. She belongs to a woman's study group and is interested in juvenile prob- lems. Mrs Dolinsky has her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska, She is now working on her master of arts degree at the University of Omaha. M. J. Ekberg earned both his master of science and bachelor's degrees from the University of Nebraska. He is teaching business and math to Vikes, and has been for the last 17 years. As do many American men, Mr. Ek- berg loves to fish-when he gets the chance. But woodworking is his favorite hobby. Traveling and read- ing are also included among his leisure time activities which give him pleasure.W Biology instructor, Vernon H. Ekfelt, is also a member of the athletic department staff. Mr. Ekfelt coaches wrestling, golf and an American Legion baseball team during the summer. He is also senior boys' coun- selor. Mr. Ekfelt likes to grow fruit trees. His favorite hobbies are fish- ing and hunting. Mr. Ekfelt has a bachelor's degree from Iowa uni- versity and a master's degree from Creighton university. Baton Club sponsor Earl E. Erwin teaches bookkeeping, accounting and business law. Until this year, Mr. Erwin was in charge of the stage crew which he had supervised for 28 years. Painting for pleasure and commercially is his favorite hobby. His room 311 is decorated with many of his paintings. Mr. Erwin was graduated from the University of Omaha where he received his bache- 'or of arts degree. World history and American govern- ment teacher Carol Gast's chief in- terest is athletics. Mr. Gast is also a physical education instructor, coach of varsity football and base- ball and co-sponsor of Boys' 0 Club. In addition to athletics, Mr. Gast likes handicrafts and reading. Mr. Gast has his bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State college and his master's degree from Creigh- ton university. For a teacher who is just as much fun and as good a problem counselor as any student, Miss Marlene Gatz rates high in popularity. After earn- ing her bachelor of arts degree from Omaha university, she took up her teaching career at North. Travel is one of her greatest pleasures. One big thrill was her, trip to Europe a couple of summers ago. She teaches English and sponsors the honorary English club, Glaciers. She is on the Military Ball committee this year. Calling the homes of students who are absent keeps attendance clerk Mrs. Gladys Gies busy during the school day. Mrs. Gies has worked at North since August, 1924, the school's first year. Mrs. Gies enjoys both sewing and handicrafts. During the summer Mrs. Gies and husband like to travel and take films of the places they have visited. Before working at North, Mrs. Gies attended Tech High. The good food prepared by the cafe- teria staff is due to the direction of Mrs. Frances Gordon, North's cafe- teria manager. During the summer Mrs. Gordon lives at her home on King's Lake. Gardening and arranging flowers are her favorite leisure pas- times. Mrs. Gordon took extension courses through Iowa State college on foods and food handling in prep- eration for her present job. And they say women are gossipsl l I

A pretty sure bet would be that Miss Cleo Butler is one of the busiest faculty members. She is head of the homemaking department, sponsor of F.H.A., sponsor of F.T.A. and a member of the Women's Study and Christmas Tea committees. Outside of school she likes to work with furnishings and food preparation. She has her bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Nebraska university's Teachers college. Being counselor of the senior girls takes up much of Miss Clare Carey's time. Miss Carey teaches first year Spanish and world history. She is also a member of the Courtesy com- mittee. Miss Carey enjoys traveling, but she doesn't have enough time to tour as much as she would like. Reading is another of her favorite interests. Miss Carey has her bache- lor of arts and her master's degrees from Creighton university. A good-natured stage-hand is Floyd L. Chase. Stage manager isn't his only occupation at North, he also teaches advanced industrial arts. The State Teachers college at Peru was the scene of his undergraduate work. He received his master's degree from Missouri university. When out- side of school, he enjoys his stamp collection and lodge work. During the summer he works as a claim adjuster and travels through nearby states. Who's the master sergeant in this picture? Getting boys and girls in the right jobs is Mrs. Mary Uhl Collins' chief interest and led to her becoming a shorthand and type teacher. Head ot the business department, Mrs. Collins co-sponsors Greggites and is on the Employment committee. indulging in her favorite hobby, Mrs. Collins toured Europe last summer. Mrs. Collins attended Gregg college for her business training. She has her bachelor's and master's degrees from Omaha university. Being director of vocal music and sponsor of Bel Canto and Modern Music Masters leaves Miss Tvvila Covvman with little spare time. Miss Cowman says, ilBoys are my hobby, but I have a hard time getting four boys to prepare a quartet. She en' joys the Jack Paar Show where she gets new techniques. Miss Cowman began her music study at South Da- kota university, continuing it at Northwestern, the Fred Waring school and other choral schools during the summer. Though she is behind the scenes assisting the choir in their perform- ances, Mrs. Beverly J. COX is in front as far as piano aid to Miss Covvman goes. Mrs. Cox uses her talent for two purposes. Not only is she ac- companist to the Viking vocal music department, but she also plays for her church's three choirs. This takes a great deal of time for she must at- tend at least three practices a week. When she has spare time, she enjoys reading. Teaching physiology and health and biological sciences are among Miss Alice B. Crocker's assignments. Her other duties include freshman girls' counselor, Activities chairman and a member of the Military Ball com- mittee. Miss Crocker's favorite hobby is meeting and talking to people. Miss Crocker has her bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska university and her master's degree from Chicago university. Physics is the subject which Harold Dally teaches. Mr. Dally is also co- sponsor of Fire Patrol and a mem- ber of the Christmas Tea committee. Woodworking is Mr. Dally's favorite hobby. In his leisure time, Mr. Daily likes to hunt and fish. Mr. Dally has been on North's faculty since Janu- ary, 1925. He has his bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska. Head of North's science department, James H. Dorsey, is the only teacher who has been at North since it opened in 1924. Mr. Dorsey teaches chemistry and is a faculty member of the Board of Control. A 1952 graduate of North, Don W. Haffner, is a newcomer in the social science department this year. Mr. Haffner is taking an active part in North's activities by sponsoring Hi-Y and having hall duty before and after school. He is especially in- terested in progressive jazz, but he collects both jazz and classical records. Mr. Haffner has his bachelor of science in education degree from Omaha university. The freshmen and sophomores using North's O30 library are often de- pendent upon the assistance of Mrs. Florence Hallgren, library clerk. Music and cooking are Mrs. Hall- gren's favorite hobbies. Reading and traveling also interest Mrs. Hall- gren. Mrs. Hallgren attended busi- ness college before becoming in- terested in books and their teenage users. Being a swimming and debate en- thusiast are Miss Mary Elizabeth HamiIton's two great interests. She teaches English and debate to North students. Miss Hamilton's time in school is kept occupied by her spon- sorship of National Forensic League, a debate club, and Great Books Dis- cussion club. She received her bache- lor of arts degree from Oberlin col- lege and her master's degree from Ohio university. I never sleep in my study halls! Algebra,--geometry and trigonometry are the subjects which Miss Marion Heiser teaches. Miss Heiser is the sponsor of Fractions. Reading, es- pecially on international affairs, interests her very much. She also likes to ice skate and travel. She has her bachelor's degree from Oma- ha university and her master's de- gree from Northwestern. Last slim- mer she received a General Electric scholarship to study at Stanford uni- versity. Head of the industrial arts depart- ment Elmer E. Helligso has been on North's faculty for 34 years. Mr. Helligso teaches mechanical draw- ing and is one of the co-sponsors of the Fire Patrol. Building kitchen cabinets is Mr. Helligso's favorite pastime in the summer. He has his bachelor of arts degree from Union college and his master of science de- gree from the University cf Michigan. Co-sponsoring Student Council takes up much of type teacher Mrs. Mar- garet Henderson's time. Mrs, Hender- son also assists working girls at the Y.W.C.A. Her favorite hobbies are cooking and sewing. Mrs. Henderson has attended the Universities of Arizona, Columbia and Omaha. She has her bachelor of science in busi- ness administration degree and her master's in guidance ywgrw Teaching freshman and sophomore boys the fundamentals of ROTC is the job of Sgt. Kenneth Hill. Sgt. Hill joined North's faculty in January, 1958. In connection with ROTC, Sgt. Hill is on the Military Ball com- mittee, and he works with the Crack Squad, the Color Guard and the Rifle Team. His favorite hobbies are baseball and working with ham radio. Sgt. Hill is in the Army's 16th Corp. English teacher Frank Hobbs can be found on hall duty during fifth hour. His other school activities include the sponsoring of Safe-Teens and the co-sponsoring of Future Teachers of America. Mr. Hobbs has been a member of the Vike faculty for three years. In his leisure time, Mr. Hobbs is very fond of music. Mr. Hobbs has both his bachelor of arts and master of science degrees from Omaha university. Miss Marlyne Hoffmann, a 1952 grad- uate of North, teaches shorthand, type and office practice. She sponsors Wagon Wheels and Horizons, and co- sponsors Greggites. Outside of school, Miss Hoffmann likes to read, ice skate, shop and llbuy things. She is also studying German.
